Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Should I go for socket 423 or socket 478 for my forthcoming P4 CPU ? gomcse 11-26-2001, 04:53 PM May I know which one is better before I get my new motherbaord ? Please advise and TIA. NDD 11-26-2001, 08:38 PM Socket 478 is the most current socket from Intel. New 0.13um Norhtwood will be also Socket478 (saw one already :) ). Socket 423 will be there until Willamette (current core) of 2.2GHz probably, after that all Pentium4 processors will be Socket 478. Got some inside stuff from Intel, not kidding :) Best Regards ... AndreRIO 11-27-2001, 03:05 AM i have a socket 478 mobo, now i am waiting for the 2.4ghz p4 to come! :c) nd, do you know how much probably the 2.4 will initially going to cost? XtReAmTwEaKist 11-27-2001, 05:11 AM sorry for you intle lovers but im sticking with AMD sorry they benchmark beter and out perform intel so i have no say but if anything stick with AMD BUT ..... i cant do that or wait i jus did HAHA NDD 11-28-2001, 09:30 PM AndreRIO - for you :) Unofficial - Intel will announce their new 0.13um Pentium 4 processors based on "Northwood" core (512kb L2 cache) on January 7th, 2002. Two basic models will be available : 2GHz will be marked as 2.0A - remember Celeron 300A ? ;) - for ~$420. 2.2GHz - ~$610 - what price did you expect from the new Intel's flagship ? :) Also, the reason for such a high price of 2.2GHz model may be yet untuned techprocess. Next models will probably be 2.26GHz and 2.4GHz, both using quad-pumped 133MHz FSB (533MHz effective). Chipsets with 133MHz FSB support will be soon released by Intel/VIA/SiS. Best Regards ... AndreRIO 11-29-2001, 03:39 PM nd, 133? will my mobo support it? i have an ax4bs, p4 socket 478 motherboard. and on the manual it says it support up to 2.4ghz. NDD 11-29-2001, 06:17 PM Not familiar with your mobo, AndreRIO, but unless it doesn't support 133MHz FSB officially, your only choice will be trying to o/c to get to that frequency :( Best Regards ... AndreRIO 12-01-2001, 06:08 PM nd, i hope you are wrong about the 133 thing. i bought my new mobo only to install the 2.4ghz later. NDD 12-02-2001, 07:28 PM Sorry, dude, your only hope is if Intel decides to push Willamette to 2.4GHz. New VIA PX4266A supports 533MHz FSB, and should be available in few weeks. Best Regards ...
