With domain names going like wildfire, do you think .com will be off set by .net?
How about .ecom for all e-commerce sites.
Any discussion?
Anticipating with bated breath.

What about the new .tv sites? I heard those will be "the next big thing." What exactly are they? just a few different letters to type?

just heard about the TV thing last night, seems some little country whose name starts with tv sold the rights to TV for millions of dollars. many countries have dot somethings, TW and UK examples. some outfit wanted to sell me my domain name with dotCC a while back. I think its some little island somewhere. some where out there there must be some one who can explain this to us.

I always thought that ALL sites containing any sex related material should be given the domain of XXX. It would make it VERY easy to ban the kiddies from the sites.

It was my understanding that EVERY country has it's own dot-something reserved for it... Some little Island country in the Pacific had .tv, but they didn't even have computers and stuff, so they sold it for like 50 million dollars i think, or something like that....

I think it's going to be a clusterf**k eventually. Extensions will lose their meaning, and become as screwed up as telephone area codes. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
Here's something I found on ZDNET about that ".tv" extension...

Tuvalu, a tiny South Pacific nation measuring 26 square kilometers, has sold the use of its domain name -- .tv -- to Idealab! in a deal that promises to garner Tuvalu more than three times its national budget.
As for other country codes, here's a link that tells what each one is for...

Perhaps, the .ecom will be broken up to all trades and services, i.e., .ecom.properties, .ecom.carpenters, etc.

I visited site a few weeks ago to check into registering a .tv domain. A regular name, nothing special, will run you $500.00. Anything specifics like brand names or famous names will cost you $1,200 and more. They set up a nice business selling .tv. Will probably be a big site for transvestites and drag queens also.

Interesting idea, but I doubt many drag queens or transvestites have that kind of $$.
A "female impersonator" might, cause they get paid for that. Not gonna think about where the "demand" comes from... They'd probably want to use .fi anyway.
I think the .tv prople have tv shows and networks in mind.
