Hi Guys

I'm thinking of upgrading to a new motherboard and processor. If I do, when I plug in my existing HDD will it boot windows or will I have to reformat the HDD?

I was hoping once the HDD was detected in the BIOS everything would work as before.

Will windows detect the new hardware on the motherboard and update drivers as necessary?

Any advice is much appreciated

Cheers

Marcus

I don't know how advanced you are as a builed. but, the answer is yes and no. it will see the new board and the hardware. but, you will 9 out of 10 see a bunch of little yellow marks in device manager and moybe some conflicts ect.

what I usually do is before I do any great changes to a new or used system. """make sure you have all drivers ect""" and go into device manager and take everything out. and than shut down make changes ect. and reboot the machine. windows will go crazy for a while looking for hardware, drives ect. and than after a while settle down.

and than load what ever windows dosen't do itself. I have changed stuff around before and didn't have to do a format. all systems ect. act differant.

just make sure you know your own system. before you make the changes. and if you want to sell the old parts send me an e-mail. I'm always looking for buys ect.

Another thing you'd want to make sure of is to get the hard drive settings out of the BIOS. There are generally three choices when autodetecting, and if you pick a different one... uh oh!
