I recall reading something about that at http://www.gamecopyworld.com/ it can be done ,however you will need a mod chip for your playstation before it will work. I have never tried it .(I do not own a playstation)

You do need a mod chip, and the programming of the chip depends on the model of your playstation. Newer playstations are harder to chip. There is also the disc swapping technique, where you boot up the playstation with one CD, then put in the burned CD to play it.

Here's a link: http://www.psxcopyworld.com/

if you don't mind spending a little money you could buy a plextor 40x cd-rom and a plextor burner then you could do a bit by bit copy and you would not have any problems then.

use the program PSXcopy - just copy the disc with your burner (me have plextor - me smile alot - me like plextor - plextor goooood) Put the disc in a playstation with mod chip - ask around in the computer group or local quake clan, some one will know where to get it - in denmark it's fairly easy and cheap: you pay the guy 250 kr. (40 bucks) he takes your playstation, puts the chip in, and if it doesn't work - the guy will give you a new playstation.... i know several guys who has this "service"

BUT!: it's all illegal of course.

getting your playstation 'moded' is not illegal, mod chips were originally used for imported games. Anyhow, if you really have a nice computer, you can just get a playstation emulator, like bleem, and put the copied versio of the game into your cdrom and play from there. So you don't have to play $50-100 to get your psx moded. Plus your cdrom from your computer should be alot faster.

you dont have to pay people to put them in though. if a person is good with a soldering iron, all it takes is the $15-20 (usd, right price?) and you can do it your self... i dont have a mod chip, but i was reading up on them one time, and i believe they are only 4 or 6 wires.

Just make sure you get the right chip. The playstation has been revised over the years, and different versions have different coding and soldering instructions for the chip. When I had mine put in, it only required three wires. The new ones have more code and a couple more wires. You can check the bottom or the back of your playstation to find the revision number.

You don't even need a mod chip anymore. At the computer show I went to last weekend there was someone selling black CD-R's. Looked just like PS discs and were guaranteed to work in an unmodded machine. Expensive though - 100 spindle was $95!

Hey braski, do you have to do the disc swapping technique with that device? Because I saw something like that, but you had to disc swap, so I said screw it.

With the Game Enhancer, you do have to load a legitimate Playstation disc first. It can be any playstation disc, including the demo that comes with the system. Next, you Power up the console with the legit disc inside. The GE then loads the boot files from that disc and stops the spinning disc for you. After that, you put your copied disc in the machine and hit the X button. You're on your way.

It's really no trouble. The other "swap method" that I have heard of involves you stopping the disk by hand and replacing it with the CDR. That seems bad for the motor. With the CloneCD copy, I would imagine you don't need to do any swapping, but that is purely speculative on my part.

You don't even need a real 'mod chip' anymore. Ther is a small device called a Game Enhancer that does the work of a mod chip plus a whole lot more. Such as this one on Yahoo!Auctions http://page.auctions.yahoo.com/auction/42432344 Essentialy it is a 'Game Shark' type device that allows you to input codes that give you unlimited lives and weapons... but these devices have been moded to allow for cdr-copies of Playstation games to be played. It plugs right in the back serial port of the Playstation so you don't have to crack the case and do any dangerous soldering. I have had one for years, and love it. Blockbuster+CDR+GameEnhancer=$5Games ... If you're going to use this method pick up a copy of the software mention in an earlier post(PSX Copy).

I also hear if you have a CD Writer capable of DAO that CDClone can burn *exact* copies of discs including the bad sectors and boot record on PSX discs that normal apps are programed to ignore. I have an old Mitsumi that doesn't support DAO so I haven't been able to duplicate these results, but it's worth a try.
