I'll try ...
"Benchmarking" means running particular set of tests, either synthetic (and boring :) ) like SiSoft Sandra or graphical (and beautiful :) ) like 3DMark2000/2001, and comparing the results with these of adequate machines.
It means that you can know exactly if your PIII-1GHz with 256MB RAM and a GeForce3 runs like other simialar machines out there.

go to www.download.com and type in "3dmark 2001"
download and install it, then u should be able to figure the rest out
