There's lots of confusing info about dpi for optical mice.

MS doesn't generally talk dpi for their optical mice, but I have seen them mention 1200 dpi. However, I have also seen that number disputed. Apparently, the actual hardware res may be only 85 dpi. The 1200 number is cited as markenting hype - it's so good they say its 'equivalent to 1200 dpi'.

The Logitech optical mice are rated at 400 dpi. That number comes straight from Logitech tech support, and I haven't found anything to dispute it.... yet.

I have 3 optical mice: MS Intellimouse optical, MS Intellimouse Explorer, and a Logitech iFeel Mouseman. They're all excellent products and *EXTREMELY* accurate, but I think the Logitech might be just a little more precise than the MS products. Just an opinion....

The sample rate can be adjusted? Cool.

Anyway, thanks all

I do Photoshop art for side money, plus I enjoy occasional gaming, and my POS mouse just isn't cutting it for me. I want to get an optical mouse so I don't have to clean that freaking ball anymore, but the resolution is a concern of mine.

I know the microsoft intellimouse optical has a resolution of 1200 dpi. But what about all these other ones? Does anyone know the resolution of the Logitech iFeel and the Dexxa optical? The boomslangs have great resolution, but they're not worth the money.

I don't know specifics, but what I can tell you is as long as you stick with the major companies (Microsoft, Logitec) you will not be disappointed. They are Vert nice and with the updated driver you can adjust the sample rate to meet your needs.
