I have three 128mb PC 133 SDRAM memory chips in my computer. That would give me 384mb SDRAM in my computer! The problem I have is that when checking how much physical memory I have left, it fluctuates between 185 and 165. That means, at times, my computer is using over 200mb of memory. Is there a way to keep this from happening? I am running Norton System works, and I have a little sensor that shows the physical memory.
I am wondering if there are any tweaks or programs that would help free up memory.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, no. Windows can never get enough RAM. If it had its way, it'd probably use all your RAM. But of course, that would cause a massive delay when you started programs, because it would have to transfer some stuff from RAM to your Hard Drive (virtual memory). To avoid this, it tries to find an equilibrium between the two, no matter how much RAM you have. My only suggestion would be to have only the programs you absolutely need running at any given time open.

For some reason Windows ALWAYS takes half of your memory.I don't know why,but I'm sure there's someone here who can explain this.

The more mem you have, the more of the HD files Windoz will put into the Vcache -- the virtual disk file cache in memory. You certainly have alot more than 384 MBs worth of files, don't cha? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
