Check this out and tell me this doesn't suck. Here's the deal according to "Sandra"
My system:
k6-2 400 oc'ed to 450
128 mgs of pc 100
Sandra memory benchmark results:
CPU memory bandwidth 62 mb/s
FPU memory bandwidth 66 mb/s
comparison:
P266
64 mgs edo
cpu 103 mb/s
fpu 105 mb/s
IDT Winchip 266
64 mgs edo
cpu 92 mb/s
fpu 98 mb/s
How the hell is this possible??? Is this program pretty reliable or what? I mean a 266 blowing my system away. Geez! will someone please tell me a low score is better, please. I think I'll go jump off a bridge now. Later...

Blade,
Sisoft Sandra has a flaw when benchmarking memory speed using non-intel CPUs. It's documented on thier website, I think. just multiply the #'s you get by 2 and you'll have the basic speed. This method isn't reliable, but it makes you feel better.

I stopped placing too much faith in universal benchmarking programs long ago. There's usually too many 'if's and 'but's in the equation to make them truly reliable as a means of testing every type of system.

Thanks for cheer up. I was beginning to ask if anyone had an old 386 they might want to trade me. Good thing I had a bungee cord on that bridge huh.

Ah yes, it is a Via chipset. Hmm oh well. I guess I'll just have to buy a real mobo with a real chipset. I guess cheap isn't always better. Actually it runs better overclocked than it did when I got it. This thing used to hang up on everything, 4 or 5 times a day. What mobo and chipset would you recommend for top notch performance???

sandra isnt compatible with non intel chipsets/processors when doing this test so just ignore what its telling you as a load of sh!!!.
the intel chipsets do seem to give the p11 and p111 the edge though, but im afraid you are stuck with sis/via etc, at the moment for the super 7 boards, but given the price/performance you cant really complain in fact i think its great. try the latest ziff davis benchmarks for a true? comparison

Thanks nimrod!! Do you have a link to those benchmarks??

I had the same concerns with my VIA chipsets/AMD and Sandra, try several different benchmarks and you will get a feel for the truth.
My AMD based systems may not have the fastest benchmarks on the block, but they have been really stable, relaible, and forgiving to countless experiments. And as for performance I ahve been very satisfied - but real life still has better graphics.

No, even Intel is no substitute for real life http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
Yea, as well as Sandra having a flaw in benchmarking the AMD, I guess Quake2 does also, as it reports really low frame rates on the AMD too.
Actually, the whole problem is really with the motherboard chipsets, and if it's via or tx pro, forget performance, you should be lucky it boots!
