I recently installed a USB card and now my system does not recognize the CD-ROM or the D:\ drive.
I have a gateway 2000, P5-166. Running Windows 98.
I hope you can help me.
Thank-You
Flora

Is the D drive another physical drive or a partition? If it is a physcial drive, make sure the BIOS can see the drive and CDROM. If the BIOS can't see it, then Windows surly won't.

If you can see the drive and CD-ROM (on bootup), check the device manager in Windows for any conflicts. Installing USB card may have taken over some resources needed by IDE controller.

On boot-up there isn't d drive or cd-rom.
How can I get bios to see it?
d- drive is physical.

When you say on boot up are you saying the bios can't see it. If so you may have loosed an IDE cable or power without knowing when installing the usb card. Check your connections.

The first thing I did when this problem arose, was to
check the IDE cables.

Thanks

You should be able to get to your System Bios Setup Screen by holding down the DEL key at bootup. There will be a number of screens to check your system information. The main one will show all your system drives. If your CD Rom(s)is not listed and it just says "Auto", push the Return to have it search for it.

You should also go to the Settings, Control Panel and System Information to see if it is shown in the list of hardware. Look at the properties to see if it is causing any conflicts.

Hope this helps.
