i am about to buy a new AthlonXP so lately i have been viewing a LOT of articles on how to overclock the FSB and how to unlock the AthlonXP multiplyer and a bunch of info about installing stuff on a new computer (im used to useing a boot disk made my manufacturer)

im printing like 50 pages a day here, i have a black ink refill thingy for my cartrige so printing in black and white is dirt cheap and i dont want to be wasting my precious color ink on pictures like this one: http://www.anandtech.com/reviews/cpu/amd/athlon/overclockingguide/image002.gif
as you can see, the bars are in green but the graph is still clearly viewable in black and white

anybody know how to change my printer to only be black and white for the time being?

Right click your Printer under Start>>Settings>>Printers and select Properties. There should be something called "print in grayscale" or an option of similar nature. Turn that on, and you'll be printing in black without colour. :)
