have two machines both running Win XP Professional sharing a cable modem through a 4 port Linksys hub, each machine has its own computer name for the @home network. Both computers can get online and each machine can ping each other. I tried accessing shared files from the run command with \\computername\sharedfile\ and get the invalid path error. When I try to install the printers from the client machine, the printers are not listed when I browse. I have tried both static and DHCP IP's and neither way works. The workgroup is the same for both. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling protocols, clients and services and NIC drivers and now have Clinet for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing and TCP/IP installed. I have been through the network connection wizard multiple times. I have used internet connection sharing in the past with these computers and file and print sharing worked fine. I can get file sharing to work when using IPX/SPX, but I do not like having to log on the computer and since one of these computers is used by my son I do not want him to have to log onto the machine when he boots it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you enabled sharing on the drives/directories you wish to share?

Right click on the drive/directory in Explorer and select Properties. From there go to the Sharing tab. If you are just sharing a directory and not the whole drive, click on "Share this folder". If you want to share the whole drive, you'll get a warning first - just skip past this...

If you get asked for a password by the client machine, enter the Administrator username and password and click on "save password".

You can go to the 'tools' menu in Explorer and map this network share to a drive letter if you wish...
