X-Box VS. PS2 VS. GameCube.

What does it really come down to.....

"To Each his own Flavor"

A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still. I'm sure you have all heard the saying before. But it applies so well here. Each system has its ups and downs. It simply comes down to whether or not the down side is something that you can live with. You are never going to convince anyone, who thinks PS2 is the best thing out there, that the X-Box is better or vice a versa. The only thing you can do is be objective and hope you can find a mutual respect for each others opinions.

I have the X-box, so for all you talking about Microsoft and crashes and all the problems it will have because its a PC. Let me tell you. It's not the same. I had my X-Box at a party with 25 people drinking and smoking and stumbling all over the place, it was kicked, the controller wires were snaged. (and by the way, the break away controller wire was a brilliant idea. It works great and eliminated a lot of hassle, expecially in the situation I'm describing.) it was paused and unpaused a million times by a bunch of partiers for 8 hours and it never crashed. I have had PS1, PS2 and N64 all lock up in similar situations. Am I saying the X-Box is better, NO, Im saying that its just as good and these conserns are slightly exaggerated IMO. X-box did have a better lineup of games for its release then the PS2 did and that is an upside. It just remains to be seen if they can keep the good games coming. This will be a major factor in its success.
--------------------------------NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!-----------------------------
X-box does produce heat (taking into account the processor and graphics processor speeds), and if you plan on putting it on top of a stereo, receiver, amp or in a closed area with little or no air circulation and plan to play it for 10 hours you could have heat problems.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have also played GameCube. It looks promising, not a good as the X-box mind you ( -- ;) -- ) but definately something that can contend with the PS2. I think Nintendo has targeted a younger (Main) audiance with this system. Between X-box and GameCube my son would probably perfer the gamecube. But he doesn't have any money so we got the X-Box. ;) The graphs on this system were great; the controllers are better then the PS2 and its compact. The downside to the system IMHO is that it doesn't play DVD Movies.

PS2 is good (My best friend owns one, so I have played a lot). Controller style is a downside IMO, and PS2 only supports 2 contollers out of the box for another downside (What were they thinking), however its easy to get over. It defiantly has more games then either of the other systems, however, its been out almost 1 1/2 years. Plays DVD Movies right out of the box, which is an upside over X-Box.
One downside is the price for the upgrade. From what I hear $150 - $200 for the network and harddrive upgrade. Better to buy a GameCude and have 2 systems.

So if you want advice on what to buy listen to this.

You want games.....unlimited games? Buy a PS2. A Good System that has enough games out to keep you busy for a long time even if they never put out another game for it. Oh yea, it looks sweet, the black and blue look shouts style all over the place. You can also play all your PS1 games on this system, which is a major upside and some of the games look better on the PS2.

You want quality of graghics, you want speed, you want the biggest (literally) baddest (IMO) most advanced gaming system on the market? Do you want to listen to your favorite band (like Disturbed) while playing a game like DOA3. Buy a X-Box. You take a small risk that X-Box does to follow up with good games. However, looking at the upcoming lineup, I don't think its that big of a risk. BTW although the controllers are big I noticed one thing while me and my frinds were playng. It greatly reduces hand cramping when playing.

You want a system that you don't have to spend a fortune on (right away) and you already have a DVD player or just dont care. Buy a Gamecube. Definatly a must for those with small children who like to play. Graphic are great on it and the game lineup looks good. Its small, compact and light compared to the X-Box. Just remember N64.........and you can take that any way you want.

For me....well I'm out $680 between the X-Box console, 4 games, 3 additional controllers, 1 memory pack, DVD Remote, and connection cables for 3 different TV's. So I won't ne getting a GameCube any time soon. But I'm happy. It is worth it. And since I'm on a swap program with my best friend I have the best of both the X-box and the PS2.

Anyway you put it, your going to spend lots and lots of money, and in the end all the systems will cost you pretty much the same.

SO???????

WHATS YOUR FLAVOR?????

All things considered, the deciding factor will be the games.

I think that you will actually get better games along the line of the x-box on the PC (which most everyone in this forum has), because it's focus will be PC gamers, you do get console ease of use though.

For personal, epic and adult oriented games, PS2 will be the clear winner. Playstation focused on single player games, PS2 I'm sure also will.

Nintento has always aimed for the "fun" games... not going for realism. Think Mario, Zelda, Metroid... classic, top notch games. The Gamecube will have multiplayer oriented games (like Perfect Dark) and classic, fun-driven cartoonish games. Yes, the Gamecube will be aimed at a younger audience, like video games were in the first place, however it seems Nintendo is making somewhat more mature games now.

I wonder what the furture will be... does it seem like the X-Box has a "sega" feel to it right now? Cult following, older audience, pretty games... will MS's console fall to the same failure that Sega did?

As for me, multi-player appealing games are the big factor for me, since my group of friends practally bonds over video games. Well, that and since I'm a huge Zelda and Metroid fan, so GC is the clear choice.

Well GameCube may be the way to go for that..............maybe not.

I have 4 games for the X-box currently.

Halo
DOA3
NFL Fever
Project Gothem

All 4 games support 1 - 4 players which has proven to be really cool as my friends and I also bond over video games.

Halo is great. It supports a 2 player co-op mode that lets 2 people play the story line game.

It also has a 4 player vs mode much like 007 for nintendo 64...........only better. Being a huge fan of 007, this is the first game to be realesed since 007 that I actually thought was better. I also found it cool that when playing only 3 players it only splits the screen in 3.

DOA3 also supports a 4 player tag team vs mode that is quite unlike anything I have ever played before. Both players on a team control when to tag in. This forces you to work together as a team. Also tagging in and out creats a entire new style of fighting, as you can untilize the tag to cause more damage and to help your teammate regen.

Project Gothem supports 4 player racing.

NFL Fever .............. Well game play is awsome (the best Football game I have played) and of course you can play 1 - 4 players in it as well. Hey, what more can I say, its Football.

I doubt MS will release it on PC. They usually only release PC games on consoles after they do good in the PC market. On average, they do poorly at the store because most console junkies only like 1st person shooters or fight games like Mortal Kombat. A good example of this is StarCraft64. Take a great PC game, put it on N64, and all of the console fans hate it because controlling the game is difficult.

If you're willing to wait, I'm sure some hackers based in North Korea or China will make an emulator for it. PC's could easily replicate the Xbox's hardware, since most of the Xbox's parts are PC or PC proprietary.

but Halo is a first person shooter, and it's controls would transfer to PC very well. I heard rumor that all X-Box games would be released for PC, at some point or another. I'm almost certian that Halo will come to PC.

Much more interesting to me is PS2's Metal Gear Solid 2. I loved the first, and when I found out MGS was released for PC a while back I have new hope MGS2 will be also. Any word on this, let me know!

For all the hub-bub about what the best consoles are, I myself still believe that pc has the most diverse set of games available. I just like pc games better than any console game. I have played Halo and it would be great if I could get just to the controller. First-person shooters need to have mouse controll. I think Halo will come to pc, only because so many people want it on pc.

I have a ps2 and like it. I watch movies on it more than playing games, it's just that the only game I think worth buying for it is Madden 2002 (maybe Tonk Hawk 3, but don't yet).
I just think alot of console games just don't have that extra replay value. Devil May Cry is a good game, but why would you want to play it over once you beat it?

In the end I think between PS2, X-Box, Nintendo, and PC, something will have to give. I maybe just blowing smoke out my a@@, but one of these formats will bite the dust. PC may see a drop in games that come out for it. Out of the other three though, in my opinion, one will not make it to the end. I am going to go with Nintendo having to really think about their stragedies. In my opinion, they are going to have a rough time from now on.

I to love PC games. I always have, more so than console games. The problem with the PC is trying to play a game with 4 people. First there is the cost. For 4 people to play a PC game they like, your looking at about $4400 dollars at the minimum. Where does that amount come from, the cost of 4 pc's and their network connection. Not only that, but LAN parties a a major pain. Everyone hulling their PC to someones house, very labor intensive. With a console you dont have that problem. 4 people can play for about $500 dollars, or if everyone has their own system it breaks down to about $2000 which is much cheaper. I can break down my Xbox and set it back up at someones house in 5 minutes total. Much easier than my PC and it becomes an event, something that not only those playing can get into but also those watching, expecially with sport games. And with Game Consoles becoming MULTI-MEDIA devices, incorperating DVD and CD (disappointed that the Xbox didnt have MP-3 support), along with gaming. More people will decide simply to buy a console rather than a DVD player. I mean, my DVD player for $300 1 year ago does not hold water to my Xbox which has more and better functions.

Also, I never have invested much in consoles as I have always been spoiled with the graphic available on a PC. All that has changed, starting with the PS2 and following up with the Xbox and GC. The graphics on my Xbox look better then on my PC with my G-Force 2 MX.

PC's will (for now) be better for playing games like Starcraft and AOE2 where a mouse is necessary for ease of use. And where an entire game can depend on how fast you can get your troops somewhere. As well as for First Person Shooter. Until a console come out that you can attach a cordless keyboard and mouse to the controller slot and play. Then consoles will defeat PC's in gaming. As they will be less expensive with the same graphics and ease of playing as a PC.

but with a computer you can play against 32 people in Half Life but your console game has a max of 4 for everything, PC games are also cheaper

i bought diablo2 and the expansion for 60 bucks, thats like 1.5 games sort of but if i look in stores i see games like X-box games and PS2 games that cost like $70 (all Canadian funds)

all games for computer are capatible with all systems as long as you are in Windows which everybody has and for Linux there is WHINE and nowadays lots of games work with PC and MAC, my Diablo2 CDs can be played on PC or MAC

you can upgrade your computer but you cant upgrade your console, i was playing streets of rage 3 with my friend on my sega genesis and we were fighting like 10 ninjas and it started to lag out hard core, if my computer did this i could just go out and buy a new processor or overclock the one i have

you meet interesting people on PC internet games, if i didnt play TFC i would never have found out about things like overclocking and how to C++ script and where to get a compiler and where to find a good tech forum and stuff like that, i found all sorts of interesting people from different countries such as Britain and Australia and found out about how much internet in Britain and Australia and New Zealand seriously suck ***

you can get expansion packs for PC games such as Diablo2 expansion but you cant do that for console games

playing PC games makes you more familiar with how a computer works and can be configured for when you change parts to make it faster or more compatible with something

with PC games such as Diablo2 you can make money actually from playing it, one of the guys in my friendlist named Playermag has made over $3000 US funds on Ebay from selling set items or unique items he happened to find in the game such as the Natalia set which he sold for over $90, pays for the game itself twice over all thanks to retards who pay money for something that can be found easily in the game if you just play it enough

Halo is a great game prob the best fps so far? I sure do hate to play it on a crappy tv though (as opposed to a high quality monitor) still it is fun. Thats the only game im intersted in for xbox. still a little pissed xbox got it first it was origonally planned for pc. But i guess microsoft did shook some hands behind closed doors. After all halo is carrying the xbox. xbox also has a really cool controller all the buttons look like gems. also I heard that xbox is fragile cuz of its hard drive if you drop it a platter could scratch or something making it useless.

On the gamecube side star wars is great fun and graphics look very realistic. Controller is comfortable about equal to xbox.
I guess well have to wait and see until more games come out which system is better. gamecube loking a little frim though.

at first i thought x-box would never make it because of their short number of games available but now it looks like they are catching up

i think it comes down between x-box and psx2

I opted for the GameCube... MY PERSONAL reasons were:

1. I don't need a DVD player.. already have one.

2. I view a hard disk and all the 'extra' hardware as additional (and unessecary) points of failure for the device. The more complex, the better the chance something is going to go wrong.

3. The games... sure the Xbox has more 'mature' titles. But adult themes don't make or break a game. Nintendo games tend to appeal to all levels... much like many of the recent animated movies can be enjoyed by all audiences.. from the kids with the slapstick and toilet humor, to the adults with subtle sexual innuendo and 'older'/intelligent humor. Nintendo will always be stigmatized as 'kiddie', but people really need to look beyond that. It's like only going to movies that are rated-R or worse because they must not be entertaining if they don't contain a certian amount of obcenity, violence, or sex.

I am also of the 'party game' faction. I love games like smash brothers, monkey ball, mario kart, bomberman, etc... though not exclusively, mind you, there are many-an-enjoyable single player game out there... but just because a game can support 4 players, doesn't mean its a good party game :)

Lastly... In my view, very few current or upcoming Xbox games truely interest me... and since it all comes down to games... and more GC games appealed to me.. the decision was easy. Not to mention, the price difference didn't hurt either. :)

Just my $0.02

I would jus like to share my opinion on the Gamecube, the graphics for this system an potntial for them to get better are great, but with better graphics comes more of an increase of space used on the the discs, the bottleneck for the system is their small storage size in their discs, so they have to make a good balance between graphics an gameplay, they could have done alot bettter if they adopted the full disc size, like nintendo is picking up more and more games aimed towards the more "mature" crowd, the gamecube may have texture compression wut the ps2 lacks, it still doesn't make up for the discs storage size at leas the ps2 have discs that can hold up to a whoppin 9-10gb ( DVD9 discs i think their called, Xenosaga uses them)
Then we have the PS2 it's a complicateed advanced peace of technology, publishers continuely seem to push it harder and harder to keep up with the xbox, an their doin a mighty fine job of that. PS2 has been around for a long time, it speaks for itself
Now the Xbox, I'm not a fan of it personally, like as bluntly as i can put it, for you "oo xbox kicks playstation 2's *****" people, ok look a the system specs of both systems, look at wuth the xbox pushes out for graphics and games an then look a the games for the ps2, yes the graphics for the xbox are better, but cut the PS2 some slack the processing speed on the ps2 is slower, it has less vram, and ram, but look at how well it competes with the xbox an still pushes out superb graphics and framrate, now it's obvious which consoles architecture is superior,

In my opinion the PS2 and gamecube should be the only two consoles at war, the xbox i see it as simply a PC for dummies, :t

Just my opinion

Every system has it's advanteges. PS2 has the wide selection of games. XBOX has it's awesome graphics and Xbox live. GameCube has all the Nintendo's classics and is sooo small (good for travelin` and what not). Xbox and Gamecube both have 4 players and that's the bummer with PS2.

PS2 is a awesome system. IMO it's the best syestem out. I like all the games and options it offers. Unlike the Xbox the DVD can be controlled by the controller and you don't have to buy the god forsaken 20 dollar controller. Also the interenet is free, but not sure that it is worth it. The best part about the PS2 is still
that game selection is just the best.

I dislike the Gamecube and have not too much to say about it execpt that it is small and has Nintendo's classic games.

i enjoy the Xbox with Xbox live and the 4 player selection. Also the games, though limited, are awesome, such as Halo. Xbox live also has that kickin` talk piece on your ear which is totally awesome. No memory card needed either. In conclusion, Xbox gets a 8 out of 10 Gamecube gets 5 out of 10, and PS2 gets a 9 out of 10.

The big boost for the PS2 will be the HardDrive, which will be 8x larger that the Xbox's which will catch an eye or two :t
