I didn't know it but Win98 has a screen shot capability built in.
If you hit
Alt-print screen
it copies the current open window to the clipboard.
Sweet!

LOL!!! uh, should I tell him or do you want to.
Uh, Dave, Windoze has ALWAYS been able to do that.
Print-screen copies the entire screen to the clipboard.
ALT+print-screen copies the active window only.
hehe.
shhhhh!

Sorry that one did sneak by me though. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/redface.gif I didn't know abou tit until recently and always used screen shot utilities.
Dave
Capture programs do have their advantages. You can select a region you want to capture rather than capturing the whole screen by the means of Print Screen function and edit them in a image editor such as Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, MS Paint, etc. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

If anyone has Thumbs+ you probably don't realize (I didn't) that it has a really cool feature that will automatically save any image copied to the clipboard to a file.
So when you in an app or a game that doesn't have a screenshot option, you can just run Thumb+ in the background and whenever you hit print-screen it'll save it as an image file. Very handy.

Here's a page I made up for creating screen shots daveleau.

Have fun and there are lots of reasons to get good at it. One is for web page graphics.
We used screen shots a lot on this discussion:

Thanks for the links. I use SnagIt 32 right now. It does have many advantages to the limited Win98 alt-PS but I didn't know it was there so... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks

The only thing I don't like about screen capture utilities is that often people will use a shareware version of one and it'll put the programs logo on the screenshot. I think, How dare them put their logo on something I could do without them in the first place. That's just rude.

You can open the image with the logo on it in your favorite image editing program for the file format and cut sections out of the pic that match the surrounding area of the logo and paste them over top of the logo until you have it all covered up, almost seamlessly.
Here is a shot of the eagle nebulae from the HST. (Hubble Space Telescope)
You will notice the batwing in the top right 3 quadrans.

Quite a few of the photos taken of objects in outerspace are produced this way as there is no pertinent information in the batwing quadrants so the astronomers omit it in the published shot.
I wanted this shot as my desktop wallpaper but it looked a little square around the edges. I used Paint to cut little sections out of the shot and moved the cut area into the corners I wanted to make round. I had my colour match and now I just brushed in the round corners with the colour black. Added my own logo to the desktop wallpaper I was creating there you have it.

Don't be offended by their rudeness, fix it!
Cheers!
