I have written here several times on this board to complain about my hard drive having bad sectors and making grinding noises when its not even a year old. well i ignore the problems but when i went to turn on my comp today the grinding noise was alot worse than usual. I was worried since i didn't have a receipt for my hard drive but i called up Western Digital anywayz to see what my options are. Thankfully they stamped the date on it when they shipped it off. I was really surprised to see that. They said that they sending me a new drive and i have 30 days to return the defective drive. I just like to say if you are looking for a good hard drive company then western digital is the way to go.

Glad to hear that they treated you well...
BTW Maxtor, Seagate, Fujitsu and Samsung will all do the same thing and I have had great luck with them in the past http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

That's great.Too bad the hd itselve isn't very good. But good service and their guarantee makes up for that.
I have had a real bad experience with Quantum a few years ago.I had a 1.1GB hd with bad sectors on them.I returned it and it took Quantum 3 months to replace it.And I didn't even get a bigger hd for the patience! And they call that 'guarantee',it sucks!I wish I had a WD at that that time...

I've RMA'd a couple of WD drives and their RMA is quite impressive, I agree.
Doing advanced RMAs, I've gotten the new drives in 3 days - or less! Kudos to Western Digital customer service http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

It's nice to see that you're pleased with customer service, this is something that is becoming rare these days.
Western Digital has had a 3-year warranty for as long as I can remember.
In my case, I've been very lucky with my hard disks, Maxtor, WD, Seagate. I've never had to return my drive due to defects, yet. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Without prompt customer service, such as returns on defective hard drives, I'm afraid manufacturers won't be able to last in the competition. Word travels fast!

WD drives aren't flashy in benchmarks, but usually are tough & reliable. One of mine's a Quantum -- stay away from 'em -- flakey.
Well, off topic maybe, but...
My mobo banged a few weeks back, i tried everything, posted i.e. here in SysOpt with some good advice, but no help. I then called the place I bought it from, a local one-man-shop here in my little village (~2000 cit.)
Had a new mobo NEXT DAY! He had to order it, and to get something to this crappy village in 24 hours is one amazing achievement !
Since we all always know about only these bad stories, so I think we have to appreciate the good things, people and companies for their efforts, since they after all exists.

Hey, cool. Usually when I have a piece of hardware that buggers up, and I don't have the receipt, I think that there's no way I could replace it, so I go outside and smash the bejesus out of it with a sledge hammer to teach it a lesson. I had no idea that companies were this leniant, thanx for the info http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I had an IBM 8.4 that would not partition or format though you could here it spinning. I tried everything I knew and called IBM. I RMA'ed it and was kinda shocked to see a Maxtor returned in it's place! Now, after reading the previous thread from caddmannq, I understand why. IBM sent me a NEW drive and I got it in 2 days! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Big kudos to their service department on that RMA! The new drive is working fine on my Win2k box. Cheers, Robert
