The demo wasn't THAT bad. I figured I owed them the 5+ minutes it took to complete the demo out of courtesy for receiving the books.

Good show...

Haha!

That was sorta stupid of Microsoft, but they can afford it. I am suprised that noone at Microsoft has realized that their offer is moronic. I mean, what percentage of the people that go through the tour actually do it for the Win2k and Office2k info instead of the free book? Like 2%, and that's if they're lucky. In a way I think it's funny that they did such a stupid thing, but I feel sorry for them too, being ripped apart by the government and people always trying to take advantage of them(such as this case). But they can only blame themselves for this sort of thing happening. And who doesn't want free books?

I wouldn't mind getting some...

2% of 100,000 would be 2000. Now 2000 X $400=$800,000! Say the books cost $5 to produce and deliver both of them, then they would still make $300,000.

Stupid? I don't think so. I don't see them loosing any money from this.If they do then it is a Tax write off.

FrozenLiquidity
06-15-2000, 11:46 AM
Hey jad, you have a good point, but I never said that 2% would actually purchase the product.

addition to jads....
well picture this, u get a free book, a free book that is going to teach you how to become efficient networking in win2k, now if u ever get an administrative position where u have to decide on an OS, obviously u had a free book from win2k, so u know how it works, therefore u buy it!
yes.... it makes them millions!
trust me it does... very smart...

So you like books eh? Cisco periodically offers free networking-related books. I've included link to some of those...

"Voice & Data Internetworking" by Gil Held (http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/lm/buffer/offer/1700routers/b2/1309_jump_b2/d853-000xx)

"Network Security Fundamentals" by Peter Norton (http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/lm/buffer/offer/securitysolution/c/1338_quiz2/V389-100K1)

All the books have arrived (via USPS) about 2-weeks after completing the request.

EDIT: For MS books.. instead of clicking through the presentation use the direct link (http://www.microsoftdemo.com/default.asp?demo=1).
