after i select a server, the game won't connect.
The card is fron Nvidia, and i have downloaded the new DetonatorXp drivers.

omfg dont ever say that
if you run the card in DirectX you get NO VIDEO ACCELERATION AT ALL
im serious, i ran my 32mb Radeon in opengl and i got 50fps average, i ran in D3D and i got about 40 average, i put it to 'software' which is another name for directX and i got 15FPS, the same speed as when i had the 4mb rage pro

Nope your wrong there, D3D is DirectX or Direct 3d (correct me if i'm wrong there).
Software will go slow cos there is no acceleration as its emulating the acceleration in software. But D3D will be faster, as it is the DirectX option, and it does use acceleration.

Most people agree that openGL is the preferred mode to run CS in. I use it exclusively with my GEf2 MX400 and my GEf2PRO. Never been a problem.
As I said above check your drivers. I'm Using the latest (21.83?) detonator drivers with both my Leadtek and my MSI cards.
Also-you may want to do a fresh install of Half-Life/CS-wouldn't hurt.
Hope you can work it out...
almost forgot...did you do a clean install of XP? Or did you install it as an 'upgrade' over an existing version of windows? That may be your problem. Probably best to do a clean install of XP or at least a fresh install of Counter-Strike.

ok this one i know for a fact is not true, my 4mb rage pro didn't have opengl support (ok no biggie) but i did have directX version 8.0 installed on my puter yet my Rage Pro did not support Direct3D mode in games so im just assuming.....

Sorry your assumption is wrong. D3D uses DirectX. No doubt about that. ;)
Unless otherwise noted, "OpenGL" refers to the OpenGL 1.2 core with no extensions and "Direct3D" refers to Direct3D8, the Direct3D interface in DirectX 8.

And its pretty much common knowledge i thought. Why your gfx card doesn't support, i dunno... but it is what it is.
Note: D3D is short for Direct3D... just to add relevance to the quote above.

Ge-force 2 Mx is a great card for the money. Why it would freeze i dont know. I have the mx400 w/ 32meg ram and i have problems running D2 with the newest xp drivers. I also didnt get the same performance in CS. I went back to the 12.90 drivers and have a constant framerate in Cs of 80-90.
Get the old drivers and install them, should make a huge difference.

hey uk, i use to have that problem withit either freezing or booting me back to windows. i fixed my problem by setting everything at default for my video card (bios, det drivers, etc) all to default. if you do that, i think that will fix your problem.

Yeah, my advice is to download the newest drivers for your card, download a patch for the game.
By the way ATI RAGE PRO can support OpenGL (But_Why guy) you just need to download the OpenGL patch for the game and it works. I have an ATI RAGE PRO on my laptop and Quake3 works in OpenGL after I install the OpenGL patch.

Did i ever say that the ATI RAGE PRO couldn't support OpenGL??
[shawn@localhost /home]# said he couldn't use it...

having never used one, i didn't know what the problem was with it, or even if there was one...
Hence the line
Why your gfx card doesn't support, i dunno...
I never said the ATI RAGE PRO couldn't support OpenGL, just that i didn't know why his didn't.
