My dad had a laptop with win 98. He upgraded to a better laptop with win XP. Before he sent his first one back, he copied some of his must have information & programs (family history, 100's of e mail address, etc..) to a 100 floppy's (please don't ask, it's my dad). He used the Back up program that's in win 98, and when he tries to restore them, win XP apparently doesn't use the same kind of back up as 98. It says that it doesn't recognize the program that was used. How can he bring back the information and programs in XP that was saved in windows 98 back up? Is there a way to at least see what's on the discs? They where savid as 1, 2, 3, 4, etc... It does not even let him see what's on each floppy. Thanks, Chris.

Restore Backups That You Create in Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me with the Windows XP Ntbackup Tool (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q305/3/81.ASP)

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, restore the data from the tape or file by using Msbackup on a computer that is running Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me.

The Windows XP back up tool won't open the back up from win 98.
There is no problem of restoring the back up on a computer with windows 95-98, Like the post said, it's XP that won't restore it.
I'm so dumb, I don't understand this. I post a question to restore in XP, and get an answer to restore in 98.

Try restoring your files back to a 98 machine that has a burner so the files can be copied to cd, then you can try dropping them into the appropriate folders. If anything at least they'll be on cd in original format til you get it sorted out rather than floppies that could become damaged.
