What is the name of the file(s) that your regestry stores as a backup?

I know I can do scanreg and restore from a few days back but what are the names fo these backups.

My problem is that I can't get to the scanreg promt.

If you use your bootdisk and run scanreg from the command prompt, it allows you to install a backup
