In reality disk compression went out with Fat16 and NTFS, the only reason it was used before with both filing systems was to conserve space on very expensive but small hard drives. as the later disk filing systems now have smaller cluster and sector sizes the gains are outweighed by the loss of performance decompressing the file for use, and recompressing afterwards.
In my opinion the answer is no
