i am trying to fix a computer for work without having to reformat, so im just trying to reinstal windows95 but after running scandisk (which reports no faults) i get the message :
cannot create a temporary directory
this may be caused by too many files in the root directory

could someone please tell me what i can do?
what would be safe to delete?
and how do i delete it?

its an old pentium 166
thanks

Make sure you didn't accidentally try to install to c:\

The root folder has a limit of 512 entries. Also, long file names can count for more than one entry.
