Office 2000

Is office 2000 compulsory registration? If so what does that really mean and what do you get out of it when you do register? I've never registered any program before and I don't think I've missed out on anything but maybe I have.

I have OFFICE 2000 Premium, and Ive reloaded it a few times in playing with the OS, and I've never had to register anything!

I've just read an article in the local paper saying that office 2000 is compolsory registration here in Australia and some other countries and if you don't get the code upon registration your copy will stop working after a time. Microsoft are trialing it first outside of the USA then if it works they will bring it in every where.
