Colleagues:

I'm running a P3 600, Abit VA6 mobo, 128 meg pc100 SDRAM, 20 GB Maxtor 7200 rpm ata66 HD, Win98se, Memorex CDRW, CD-ROM, USB Zip, USB scanner, 250 PS, Voodoo3 3000 AGP, Ensoniq sound card, 2 modems (1 isa, 1 pci). I have a stock fan on my cpu heatsink, a PS fan and a small intake fan in the front of my desktop box. When I run my Links golf LS99 Golf, the sound is choppy when the crowds applaud, etc. In other words, the audio vasilates... I've no other audio difficulties. Does anyone suspect why this is so? This choppy sound quality is present even when Links is the only open program. My cpu and system temp rarely exceed 89 degrees F.

Thx for any suggestions!

Are you running the game straight off the CD? If so, having DMA enabled for that drive can produce choppiness when running large multimedia files off it.

I agree with you, I recently experience the same choppiness. My solution was incurred upon altering the DMA preferences for C: drive, thus enabling me to adjust the sound levels the proper state. What had happened to my game (half-life) was the sound levels we being "fooled" by the DMA preferences into thinking they were idea when infact the treble was almost reverb!

Let me know if this is a good solution for you-

Thanks for your responses. I am not running the Golf program from a CD: that program is fully loaded on my HD. It is, however, DMA enabled. I'll disable the DMA and see what happens.

Thx! Brangwen http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
