Hi, I bought a windows xp pro full version to do a clean install in my machine:
Celeron 333 MHz (Matsonic MS7192S Motherboard 4/1999 Bios).
256 mb pc-100 ram.
16 mb savage 4 agp video card.
6.4 wd uda hard drive.
ultra 66 controler.
network cad.
sound card.
modem.

I took about 1.5 hrs to install, now it takes 15 minutes to boot after it boots it works fast with no problems, what I need help with, is to see if there are some setting that I need to change to allow to boot faster.

Any help on will be appreciated.
Thank you all.

Could be the hard drive not up to par with XP. Did you delete the partition and create a new one then format before installing? Might also help before install to try fixing the mbr by typing at the A: prompt fdisk /mbr before installing.

What I did was to partition the hd to a full capacity then I formated using winme boot disk to a fat 32, then I installed win xp pro full version using the boot cd with no problems (1.5hrs Installation).

that's a bit long, it might be that your processor is too slow.

on my system it takes less than 1 minutes to boot, but i have a 1.3ghz tbird. :c)

45 seconds to boot, on a PIII@900mhz.
How about trying this little tip/trick: http://www.microsoft.com/HWDEV/fastboot/default.htm

ok, same problem..takes forever to boot.
Here's the story..

installed xp on a 1ghz 256mb ddr, asus a7m, decent specs all around.
runs great for a week or so. Then something must have messed something up, cuz it started to crash. yes, crash. either just restart like you hit reset, or do blue screen. (although it's different now, it's still a blue screen.)
I tried reinstalling over it, and it sort of worked. But, then started to crash again a day later. Some of the errors were page fault errors, and other things that led me to think it was the ram. I pulled one of the cheap 128 mb sticks, and now it takes forever to boot. Or, it's stuck on the boot screen forever until I give up..
any ideas?
thx
