Well not really a program...its a screensaver, but I would hate to call it that. At only 102k, its real small, yet its got a soundtrack and everything, and even rivals 3dMark2000's Demo..no joke!
I have NO IDEA how they managed to stuff all that and a decent quality soundtrack in there.
EVERYONES gotta check this out...102k wont take too long at all

http://www.3dfiles.com/screensavers/gizmozone.shtml

This wont take much of your time, so if you have a 14.4kpbs modem or faster, and a decent video card, go download now!

It's pretty cool.Imagine that's only 100kb to download...

nunyadam,are you sure that's OpenGL?I noticed you can choose for 16 or 32bits color.OpenGL is always 32bits.

I would not have believed that that was 100Kb if I had not DL'ed it myself. AMAZING

AuraEdge

OGL is only 32 bit? since when?
In any OGL game, you can select 16bit, or 32bit, maybe even 8 bit..never tried it myself.
Yes, the Screensaver runs on OGL
Just amazing...pretty amazing they fitthe soundtrack on there...the visuals just blew my mind

Yes it's OpenGL. Pretty cool.

10-05-2000, 04:21 AM
It's encredible what they can make of 120 K

...I'm not surprised though, i've been a on the demoscene for some time now, and you should see some of the stuff they can pul out of a 4K demo (!!!)

Yea, and then it magically turns into 15 MBs of files on your HD!

Snuffy!

Yep, agreed, bloody kickass screensaver! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

AuraEdge

Is it? thats the first Ive ever heard of OGL always being 32bit...I honestly doubt it...can you post a link w/ backup?

..How come frame rates go up in say..Q3A if you set it on 16 bit then?..that uses OGL

BBA
10-05-2000, 02:24 PM
Barney...I think your following the professional design type OpenGL spec. That is a reason why professional cards were so expensive...they were doing 32 bit OpenGL for years...while we started out at best with Glide 16bit...

BBA
10-05-2000, 02:34 PM
Actually...if you think thats something...you should see what my friend Royal ( Obwando ... www.fraglan.com (http://www.fraglan.com) ) is building.

I saw it in action. I watched the DVD MATRIX in fullscreen full frame resolution ( 1024x768 ) from his PC at fraglan...it was playing from his computer in his house across the internet! With a standard cable modem connection no less!

There are ways of getting data across without actually moving the data...

Cool music...low poly's. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I too am amazed at the compression. I mean people post pictures of their desktop that are larger sized files.

I looked at the files that it installs. One of them is 11 MB!! I wish WinZip had that kind of power.

Barney
10-06-2000, 12:49 AM
They must have used an amazing compression technology to turn 15mb into 100kb!

Btw,about that OpenGL,the videocard must convert 32bit into 16bit to use 16,because OpenGL is ALWAYS 32bits http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif .

Ronald

Barney
10-06-2000, 03:34 PM
BBA,I guess you're right.I was mistaken. What my videocard does/can convert is 32bit OpenGL textures to 16bit.I think most videocards can do that.

I guess I'm the only one who's got a problem enjoying this screensaver. I tried it on my winme box and if I don't disable the sound it gives me an illop (D650@900 A7V+SBlive). On my win98SE box it won't run at all (says I should install drvers for my vid card -Ati rage PRO + Voodoo2)

I would be luckier to try it on my linux boxes I guess lol.

Barney

It isn't weird that it doesn't work on your second system, because both cards do not support OpenGL.The first system, maybe you should update your videodrivers?

Looks like they both support OpenGL.

Can you run any other OpenGL game/demo on the Win98 box? if not try the drivers update..

On the WinME box...Try unloading SBLive drivers or Live!ware and and reinstalling them...sounds like more of a sound problem than a video problem since the screensaver works fine w/o sound.

otheos - you're not the only one.. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Tried it on my W2K w/G400MAX and I got music, black screen was all. Maybe a power setting... dunno. Still an OGL issue? ... trying updated drivers.

On WinME, I think I need to update the S3 drivers.

Edit: Yep, updated drivers on the WinME V770TNT.
Edit: Yep! Installed the G400 5.14 drivers.

Pretty darn cool "screensaver"! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Not too bad http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

I'm a fan of presentations like the 3D Mark 2000s helicopter and village - not really a fan of the shapes and stuff http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. Wish they had a "real" graphical presentation. But it does look very nice.

Guess I'm wrong again. That's weird,I had an Xpert '98,and I was NEVER able to run OpenGL.Games like Q2,Q3,kingpin,etc.Those games just didn't work on OGL.And I always had the newest drivers.

And ofcourse 3dfx with OGLminidriver.Is a game like Q3 actually playable with a Voodoo2?

Ronald

Hmm...I just saw in the specifications of the Xpert98 'OpenGL for Windows NT4.0 .Does that mean OGL will only work in NT?

My friend at a LAN party type thing played Q3A with a V2, so I know it works. Dont know what his primary display driver was, but whatever it was had no 3D whatsoever.

Off-topic, but OpenGL on a RagePro Turbo? Hahahahahaha! ATI do great multimedia cards, but they are slackers with their drivers. It took months of beta testing before ATI released their "full" OpenGL ICD, by which time mine had been replaced by a 16Mb TNT with PROPER OpenGL support.

I've stuck with nVidia ever since...

Hey my Zonealarm blocked the download, and when I tried to go back to the site the page won't load.

OK OK got it, another bump in the road, need drivers.
No pun intended

Has anyone gotten virus warnings due to this screensaver?! I have but I fowarded the screensaver to one of my friends and he said that his software detected a virus.

AuraEdge

I just did a full virus scan with Norton 2k with latest def's about 2 days ago, with the screensaver installed..No virii to report.

socalgal

No.... virus report here, on NAV7 (CE) or The Cleaner (trojan detector).

What AV prog are you using, and what's the name of the virus it picked up?

ArgusII

I didn't find anything either and I am using Norton AV 7.00.51F. The friend I mailed the screensaver to is using Hotmail and they use McAfee Virus Scan.

Great screen saver!

Here's one of my favorite screensavers called ParticleFire:
http://www.longbowdigitalarts.com/particlefire.html

It's free(for a while) and is a 252KB file.

Hope you enjoy it. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
