Beeblequix 11-07-2001, 05:15 AM The point of selling the 8500LE has everything to do with YIELDS. Every semiconductor manufacturer experiences good crops and bad crops. The reason RambusDRAM is more expensive than SDRAM or DDRSDRAM is because of how low their yields are compared to SDRAM manufacturers. The same is true for nVidia, who produce x amount of geforce 3 graphics cores. Some of the cores are faster and have better signaling within itself and can be sold as a Geforce3 ti 500. The same is true for ti 200's and our good friend Radeon 8500LE. This card might be a great value for the consumer, as it will sell for less, yet most likely have reasonable overclocking capabilities (although it would be doubtful to get a gf3ti200 to clock up to a gf3ti500 speed in core or memory). My 2 quid. BeebleQuix henry 11-07-2001, 02:30 PM Am I safe to say that the Radeon's performance is comparable to GeForce3? Any praise to ATi product? Any good? Ranma 11-07-2001, 10:29 PM Any praise to ATi product? ATI has made competitive products for over a decade. Recently, the company has created products that can compete from a gaming standpoint. The Radeon 8500 OEM is ~$190 on Pricewatch. The GeForce3 200Ti is ~$165 on Pricewatch. The Radeon 8500 OEM is on par or superior in most gaming applications to the GeForce3 200Ti. The Radeon 8500 Retail should run about $250 shortly after its release. That's about $100 less than the GeForce3 500Ti (to be fair, this price will drop as well). Even the most demanding systems will find the Radeon 8500 wholly adequate to their needs. If, however, you desire to build the ultimate performance system, a GeForce3 500Ti may be the way to go. Of course, depending on the viewpoint, the same argument can be made for the Radeon 8500. Bottom line: Both cards are fantastic and will offer the highest levels of performance. werewolfmage 11-07-2001, 11:23 PM I would rather use a voodoo than a ati. I had bad problems with ati products in the past. i am curently looking at the the g3 500 That looks like a nice card. Ranma 11-07-2001, 11:36 PM werewolfmage, Would the problems you were experiencing be the ATI card working, as opposed to having the Voodoo card, like the AMD processor, serve as a cook fire for your morning meal? I went through two Voodoo3s that burned out on me, and my friend went through three. The cards were NOT overclocked (perhaps they were made of Chinese newspaper). werewolfmage 11-07-2001, 11:41 PM Rofl. I still use my V3 3000 in my 333 and it still runs fine. I also put a cpu fan on the heatsink. so it stays cool. that was the major prob with the voodoo 3 and 2 was no fans :( werewolfmage 11-07-2001, 11:43 PM oh btw LOl i am not that sad to use a 333 anymore. I use a tbird 1400 mhz o/c at 1500 mhz.:-) Ranma 11-08-2001, 12:29 AM werewolfmage, May your AMD/3DFX cook fires always be plentiful. I wonder how a tasty pig on a spit would fair, slowly roasting over the card/cpu (yum). werewolfmage 11-08-2001, 12:41 AM My tbird runs at 78 -100 degs. O/c at 1500 mhz the voodoo card runs at a lower temp lol a much lower temp. my current system runs really cool. so there isnt going to be a pig roasting on my comp. henry 11-08-2001, 04:51 AM The reason I asked is to seek other products that offer similar performance as GeForce. If everyone starts buying GeForce, soon enough we'll be having another Intel or Micro$oft monopolistic giant in the video card industry, esp. when it comes to gaming. PhantomUK-519 11-08-2001, 02:35 PM If you run a 1.4 Athlon at 78-100 you are an idiot and soon it will fry! My 1.4 runs at a cool 26 and my 1800+ runs at 33. Oh the 8500 beats the GF3 500 hands down! ;) A little Knowledge is Dangerous (See most above comments for proof) henry 11-08-2001, 06:51 PM Wow! Even my Thunderbird 800Mhz, without OC is running at 43 celcius. You're probably running a water cooler system heh? :D PhantomUK-519 11-10-2001, 08:07 AM No water cooling, just know what im doing ;) Swift tec coolers ROCK mate. henry 11-11-2001, 07:18 PM Ooo! Does that cooler manufacturer has got a website? Point me directly to the particular model that you're using as well if you don't mind. Can't wait to get rid all the extra auxiliary fans that I'm using. SysOpt.com
