Hello all. I'm sort of in a bind here...

I purchased a copy of Windows XP Pro upgrade from CompUSA a few days ago for $200. Installation was an absolute nightmare on my machine, causing numerous conflicts and rendering my once sturdy PC into an unstable abomination. I know what the return policy is at the store: you bought it, and you are stuck with it. I have now reverted back to my trusty Windows 98 and I'm so glad I did. Is it legal for me to sell my now useless copy of XP? I have activated it upon installation, but did not register it. I understand that you'll have to re-activate it, considering the hardware change. I also have a $25 mail in rebate with my receipt and boxtop w/barcode. Obviously, I have no need for this OS upgrade, so I would really like to sell it. If it's legal, I'm asking $120 shipped. Any takers? Within US only, please. ;)

Bump...

Come on guys & gals. This is a 110% legit copy here. The serial number is NOT floating around anywhere. It is not installed on ANY machines. I'm taking a loss on the price as well. $120 shipped with a $25 mail in rebate...you even get the original store receipt...so what's up??

I have Partion Magic 6 and Drive Image 4. Unfortunatly, they have been registered by me. I don't have the boxes, but do have the manuals. Plus $50 cross shiped.

Hmm, not sure if this is legal...
If anyone knows if it is legal to sell used software please post.

Yes, if someone does know for sure then please post. Sorry nobs, but I would rather have the money instead of a trade. I think it is legal, as long as you completely forfeit your user license agreement (no longer installed on your machine). I will look into this with MS and post again (unless someone can answer this question now). It would really suck if I wasn't legally able to get this OS upgrade off my hands. :(

Say, wouldn't one of the admin's here know the answer?

I sent an Email to MS and PQ. Not holding my breath for MS real reply (canned response don't count  )

I sent an e-mail too. My fingers are crossed. It makes me sick knowing I spent $200 on something I can't even use. My specs are way over the minimum requirements. Everything installed just fine;all drivers were XP compatible and no incompatible software was reported. Just made my system so freakin' unstable, it was ridiculous. If it's a go, are you interested nobs?

Spoke with an MS representative a few moments ago, and it is legal for me to resell my copy and forfeit my single user license agreement. However, I was told I could simply get a refund from MS. So I think I'm going to go that route! Sorry, but this copy is no longer for sale. :D
