Hey, thanks for the tip! How good are these sticks for overclocking? (I'm just talking 112 MHz here at the highest)
Speaking of deals, here's one I just picked up from http://www.arstechnica.com who got news of a giveaway at http://www.x10.com/products/free_fire_slash1.htm
You can also read the brief comment on the Firecracker product http://slashdot.org
On the off chance I clicked on the link, and lo! because of server problems yesterday the offer has been extended to midnight(tonight) the 23rd, or until supplies run out. I don't know if it's any good, but I was willing to risk $5.90 ...
Hey, how does that DVD Anywhere product for $88 only today (scroll down on the X10 page) sound to you folks? It would be handy but wouldn't the DVD signal be degraded?

y'know...
I was just checking my link to X10 when I noticed that the June 23 midnight deadline had been pushed over to June 24 midnight in the ten minutes since I had last visited the site! So now I begin to think this is a little fishy...? Also, I just read some of the comments by slashdot members and it does seem like fast sales tactics. You probably oughtn't give them an email address you care about. I'm an idiot and I did. Farewell, my spam-free lifestyle! Still, it remains a good deal if it is true.

I haven't bought much online up to now, but I always confirm sales ads by placing a call to the sales dept., asking questions, verifying specs, delivery, prices, etc., and getting the name of the person with whom I've spoken. That doesn't make online buying foolproof, but at least I have something to fall back on if something goes wrong.
As for the o/c'ing, here is one set of specs. http://www.sysopt.com/reviews/sdram/
Basically, I couldn't pass up the price.
As always: Caveat Emptor - Let the buyer beware.

I see $73 ram on www.pricewatch.com everyday that fits those specks.

Ack, pricewatch.com does seem to have better pricing. Even on the Mushkin. I'll check there first next time around, I reckon.

Thanks again, socalgal!
about the Mushkin RAM -- I know they've been around for a while and that they have a very good reputation, so I wasn't worried about their deal. They have several types of 128 MB PC100 RAM, one of which was tested in the sysopt review, so I was wondering if this were the same and was too lazy to call Mushkin and find out. Shame on me.
Ditto for the Firecracker advert, which has generated quite a lot of discussion on slashdot. It does look like people are getting the goods and that the real questions are: (1) was it worth the $6 shipping and (2) not having been crafty enough to give a fake email address and withhold my phone number, will I ever get my life back? Well, being able to flick lights or stereo off and on from my computer should amuse me for a good ten minutes, hey? I'm still looking forward to receiving the doohickey.
