Dual Monitors W/DVI connector is it possible?

I want to get a Geforce3 based card but can't find one with dual vga connectors....but there are some with a VGA and A DVI connector.....If I get a DVI to VGA adapter will I be able to run two monitors? Will the software support it?...I have read the specs on the ATI Radeon it is set up with 1 VGA and 1 DVI connector and it says it supports the dual monitor......but will the Geforce3 based cards do the same? I'd always thought the output of the two connectors are the same. Even if you did plug the second monitor in it'd give you the same display as the first. Theres always the dual head GF2 MX.........;)
If I'm wrong on this one, please tell! I've got one of those DVI/VGA cards...
