come on now people, is it or is it not the amd xp "1500" equal to a p4 1500mhz? i choose intel because amd has no own identity, now that they compare their cpus to intel, i tought why not go and buy an intel! :)

Athlon XP 1500+ implies that its performance fares with an Athlon TB 1.5GHz (if indeed TBs go that high)
And since a P4 1.5GHz is no comparison to a TB 1.5GHz, you can bet it is no where near an Athlon XP 1500+

It means that it's basically AMD's contribution of what would be the equivalent to an Intel 1.5. I believe the 1500 runs at 1.3Mhz. Most benchmarks say that the 1500 beats out the Intel 1.5.. I, however, prefer system stability.

I recently picked up the Intel 1.5, and have been extremely happy with it. It's ran like a rock. Keep in mind, AMD assists most benchmarking software makers in the development of their tools. The lag is now on Software developers. They need to write software that exploits both architecture's new enhancments and benefits.

For now, AMD has the slight edge in 3D/Gaming benchmarks. I see alot of jumping in that category once new chipsets, motherboards, drivers and software patches start coming out.

AMD 1500 does NOT = Intel 1.5

An older AMD 1.43 is equal to and sometimes faster than an Intel 2.0ghz. The 1500 outperforms an Intel 2.0ghz chip.

AMd uses a conservative numbering scheme when it comes to perfomance. The 1500 is supposed to say that the AMD chip performs as well as an Intel x.x (in this case 1.5ghz).

AMD's numbers are VERY conservative though.

Check out hte benchmarks on various sites.

You will see that a lower Ghz AMD chip will outperform a higher Intel ghz chip EVERYTIME.
