I am currently using ASUS CUSL2 motherboard and I am planning to get a 80GB Maxtor Drive, ATA 133, 7200 rpm and I would like to know will there be any software / firmware upgrade to upgrade my Motherboard to support ATA 133 ?

Please advise and TIA

No.
ATA/133 compatibility can't be gained by software update.
I wouldn't worry about that, too, coz you won't even see top ATA/100 performance on this one.

Apparently ALi 1535D+ south bridge is already UDMA133 capable, just a BIOS update needed. All others: Most probably No.

The other option is to go with an add-in card. Not only will you get the ATA133 you're looking for, it will give you a minimum of 6 IDE slots on your computer. It also makes it easier for a RAID setup! Hope this helps! Also, I find it really hard to believe that your SouthBridge is ATA 133 compatible with a bios flash?
