what would be your best choice:

1. Maxtor 30GB 7500rpm ATA100
2. IBM 30GB 7500rpm ATA100
3. Seagate 30GB 7500rpm ATA100

That's not the end all and be all...but it backs my recommendation, the IBM.

Snuffy!

I say the IBM, because IBM drives are usually quiter, and more reliable. My IBM drive kicks ****! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

If you are an overclocker, do not go with the Maxtor. It gets data corruption frequently during OCs in some systems (like all of mine). Go with the IBM. I set up 2 15GB ATA100 IBM 7200rpm hdds in a RAID0 ATA100 on a BX133 and it rocks! Super fast drive and stable.

most drive at 30gig and bigger are all noiseless. so pick whichever is cheapest and most reliable. wouldn't recommend seagate thought, they are known in the past to have bad sectors due to excessive heat built up in the drive. Either maxtor, WD or IBM which is most expensive of course of the the IDE.

HEY! Don't knock the Maxtor!

I got a 30.7GB 7200RPM Maxtor hard drive in my computer, and it works flawlessly!
