I just assembled a new PC. Started by doing a fdisk and format with Microsoft software then installed software. Sysytem seemed to run slow, so I then did a reinstall with IBM Drive Guide software and loaded back up software and all is running super. My question is when I did partition\format with IBM software it took about 2 minutes, but with fdisk and format it takes longer is this normal or am I not doing it all right???? please advise.......
That is quite normal for FDISK to take much longer than IBM HDD utility. Maxtor Max BlastBlast is the same way. It takes about a minute to make FAT32 partition with MaxBlast on a 60GB HDD with MaxBlast. I was using that software just last night at work. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

MaxBlast, ez-drive, ez-bios, ALL that **** is evil as far as I'm concerned. It's only necessary if your bios is an older one and doesn't reconize large HD.
There are quite a few threads here on this subject. Search for'em and read'em and you'll see why I (& so many other) literally despise these programs.
btw, when you do an Fdisk and then Format, it's actually formatting the HD, and this takes time, no way around it. When you use the specific drive software it is not actually formatting the drive...basically it's just erasing everything and presenting you with a clean drive...NOT a cleanly formatted drive.
