Having unwittingly installed what I was led to believe the latest version of Direct X (v8.0) I installed only to find it was an expired Beta version. The program does not tell you this until after the installation at reboot - by which time it is too late. I am now left with an expired version which keeps telling me to update. Trying to install v7.0a over and it goes through the installation and then says there is no need to update because a newer version exists.
Any help as to how to remove existing version and reinstall v7.0a to get my system back to normal would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx cyclone2 but this does not work...Tells me there is a newer version installed and therefore no need to reinstall.

My brother had the same problem with DX8.0 it's very buggy (that's why it's beta). He had to install Windows again.

Yes you can uninstall it wiht this program. I have never tried it since the program does not work in NT. http://www.ebrink.com/dxun/Direct.htm
To remove DX8 from W2K just look in winnt\system32 and then run undx8w2k.exe. I would think there would be something similar for win9X.
I am running DX8 on W2K with no problems at all.
