Thank you muchmark, but i already was at that site and it doesn't tell me what i want to know. What i'm looking for is the amount and type of ram etc. I'm trying to upgrade this computer and i think it's 72 pin edo ram but i'm not entirely sure. I am a newbie at this. I can tell from the size that it is 72 pin, but since i'm no veteran, that is all i can tell. I was hoping the motherboard manual could help me. Any other suggestions??
TIA

That number you gave is just a chip identifier, not a mainboard product name. Try again.

okay, silly question, but if the chip is identified as intel, wouldn't that make it an intel motherboard??
There are 3 large chips i can see, the one i mentioned, s3 one , which i think is an audio or video? and another one, just like the first one. Where exactly should i look for the motherboard number??

okay, through the southbridge chipset number and the northbridge chipset number i found out that the motherboard is an intel 430fx (triton) but intel has a message that they have ended interactive support. when doing a search on 430fx, i can't get any hits for a motherboard manual. Any help would be appreciated..

Still haven't got the point ... Intel chips don't make the thing an Intel mainboard. Chip vendors sell their stuff to piles of mainboard makers, and identifying the chips will help you narrow down the mainboard model AFTER you identified who made it.

If that thing is running, the BIOS ID line given at the bottom of the screen during RAM test will point you toward this information. Visit www.wimsbios.com to learn how to read that ID.
