K I did something real DUMB. In an attempt to delete all my Temp files using the tempora~1 deltree *.* at Dos, well, somehow the whole **** Windows folder got deleted. I was able to use a boot disc and Re-installed Windows and most of my drivers. But I keep getting this error message at Post Up:
"ERROR: Memory Manager Not Detected
Creative Sb 16 Emulation driver Requires Emm386 or Similiar
Creative Sb 16 Emmulation Driver not loading"
Also, I can't connect to the Internet. When I open IE I get the error message: "There is not enough memory to continue..." However with the new Windows install I now only have IE 4.
Weird, I also noticed I now have two windows folders..Windows and Windows.000.
Specs:
Win 98
Clone system
Pent. II 350
Maxtor 40GB HD
192 MB Ram
nvidia TNT2 Video card
Creative SoundBlaster PCI512 sound card
Abit MOBO
Netgear FA311 Fast Ethernet PCI card
EtherFast 10/100 Lan card
My Config.sys file has just one line:"device=C:\windows.000\hymem.sys" I tried adding the lines: Dos=High, UMB and device=C:\windows.000\Emm386.exe. And i got the error message at post up: "Error: config.sys file is not complete, SB port, Creative sb16 Emulation driver not loading" and then Windows stopped loading.. So I changed my config.sys file back.
So if someone could help me out I would appreciate it. I've spent over 6 hours so far trying to fix this problem and I am now at my wit's end. (:

I feel your pain, I've done this with the old deltree:D I am a bit confused as to whats happening with your computer though. Some ideas.
I think windows.000 is the directory windows creates to install itself when there is a windows directory already on the drive. So did you delete the /windows directory before you installed windows?
You sound card seems to be using compatability mode. Is this so? Check in the performance window in "my computers" properties. If it says that something is using ms-dos compatability mode the drivers aren't installed correctly and you should concentrait on that.
IE not working sounds like you actually don't have a memory manager running, but I don't think you can run windows without one. Try to fix that soundcard thing, it may go away.
One things for sure, your system is a mess now, you may want to consider a reinstall after a hard drive format. Of course you would want to back up your data first.
Good Luck,

Ashur, Thanks for Your reply. Lets asume I don't have a memory manager working, how do I correct that?

What OS are you using?
...
well anyway, just put this in your config.sys file, I assume it's not there or is (rem)arked or something.
device=windows\himem.sys
device=windows\emm386.exe

K Ashur. I started Windows without loading Config.sys and Autoexec.bak and no more Memory Manager Error. But, I still can't use IE. Everytime I click on it I get an out of memory message and I have 192MB, so I have plenty. Anyone have any ideas? I am fresh out.

K i re-installed Windows and now I just have the Windows.00 folder, but I still got the *out of memory * error when trying to open IE. So I went to the Version Conflict Manager Tool and restored IExplore.exe Ver 6 from 4. And now I get two different error messages, YAY LoL. I now get * error starting Program: The Iexplore.exe file is linked to mising export shlwapi.dll: 437 and * A device attached to the system is not functioning*
So any other ideas?? What device?? geez.

If you used this format
tempora~1 deltree *.*
then of course you're gonna delete your windows folder.
Are you trying to remove the temp or temporary internet folder?
This will remove the temporary internet folder.
c:\ cd windows (at the c: prompt)
takes you to this
c:\windows
now type this
deltree tempora~1
or
c:\windows
cd tempora~1
deltree *.*
To remove the temp folder just replace the tempora~1 with temp
If you reinstall windows on itself the way it is now, you'll just make a bigger mess. Everything will still go to the windows.000 folder.
You're better off backing up your downloads, etc., then doing a format on your drive. Then install windows again.

And for the soundcard, do this
Go to device manager, click the + on creative miscellaneous devices, double click on the Creative SB16 Emulation Properties, click settings, click on Allow LPT interupt sharing.
This will fix the emulation drivers not loading.

K thank You everyone for all Your help. The problem is all fixed now, or as fixed as it's going to be. I copied IE6setup.exe from another comp and that fixed the IE problem. And I guess I can live with the Windows.000 thing. The soundcard and memory manager errors went away when I just simply stopped loading config.sys and autoexec.bak. Thanks again :)
