I read an article in a computer magazine soe time ago about lucas arts.
It was about new relaeses and future games, and told that all the internal test versions where put in a microwave oven, and fried for a few seconds to zap them.
Is this a smart way if you desperatly need to destroy the contents of some "backup" discs? Or is there other ways?
Not that i need to destroy any of my own...
...at the moment.

Scrape the coating off of the "burnt" side, it flakes off, the Feds would never be able to recover data from the flakes!

I heard somewhere that "the Feds" could (with time) connect the broken CD pieces back together and read the info.
Microwave seems like the best idea (recommended if you have an old one) or melt the plastic with a lighter.

"Microwaves are totally awesome,dudes!"
I guess using a microwave oven doesn't leave much that can be used.It would like a mini-pizza after a few seconds.

I did have one cool expirience with the microwave once - i had put in a plate with gold lining. i heard sparks and saw lightning going around the edge - way cool
I'll definately use the microwave next time...

FIRE!!!
Nothin's as good as FIRE!!!
All you need is a lighter and five "galons" of fulel of some kind. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
Edit » I looked it up... Is it "Gallons"?

BBQ
Put the disc on an old cookie pan in the BBQ pit & leave it about 10 minutes.
The pan prevents the plastic from coating the grill or dripping into the coals. This does NOT leave a "burnt plastic" smell in the BBQ.
Word to the wise - check with the family cook first. What looks like a beat-up old POJ pan may be her/his favorite!!!

Although boring, I scrape it on the cement outside. Kinda like 90 grit sandpaper.
I do like fire tho... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Butane torch. Something hot enough to melt copper easily should take care of the CD.
Or my Tesla coil; that isn't too pleasant to CDs either:

If you put a CD in the microwave, shiny side up, I bet you'd get a cool light show http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

But That would hurt the microwave. That's why Playstation CD's (not the copied ones http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif ) are black. It's the golden combo with microwaves.

Why would you put a non-CD-r, non-AOL CD in the microwave anyways? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
