Well, the self-contained part, I don't know, but I do know that it is a PowerPoint file. zskillz 10-03-2000, 06:05 PM thx jeff. is there a possibility that it could carry a virus? -Z randy48 10-03-2000, 06:05 PM MACROs! Beemers 10-05-2000, 06:39 AM What is the problem with the *.pps file? We can better relate to you and this question with a touch more info. Thanks Cheers! zskillz 10-05-2000, 01:49 PM no problem at all. one of my buddies sent me an email, and i never open attachments unless I know what they are... i just didn't know what this one was so i thought that i'd ask... regardless, i don't have powerpoint, so i just deleted the email cause I don't care about it anyway -Z Beemers 10-05-2000, 09:33 PM If you do get interested in viewing Power Point Shows, (they can be pretty kewl) you can get the viewer from thte link below. A lot of programs offer just the viewer for their files. http://microsoft.com/isapi/gooffupd.asp?TARGET=/downloadCatalog/dldPowerPoint.htm?ShowType=Viewer Cheers! and you are right in "Better Safe Than Sorry" steves1728 10-06-2000, 10:15 PM they say "every file format in the world" a nice reference- http://whatis.com/Flat_Files/WhatIs_File_Format_A/0,281899,,00.html Fixed link. -Socalgal [This message has been edited by socalgal (edited 10-06-2000).] Jeff7 10-06-2000, 11:49 PM Yes, macros, as randy48 mentioned - that would probably be the biggest threat. I guess that pretty much any file out there could hold a virus of some sort though. Some programs allow you to scan the file for viruses before opening it; just be sure that your AV software is updated. SysOpt.com
