I think it is a sort of self-contained Power Point presentation. Well, the self-contained part, I don't know, but I do know that it is a PowerPoint file.

What is the problem with the *.pps file? We can better relate to you and this question with a touch more info. Thanks

Cheers!

no problem at all. one of my buddies sent me an email, and i never open attachments unless I know what they are... i just didn't know what this one was so i thought that i'd ask... regardless, i don't have powerpoint, so i just deleted the email cause I don't care about it anyway

If you do get interested in viewing Power Point Shows, (they can be pretty kewl) you can get the viewer from thte link below. A lot of programs offer just the viewer for their files.

Cheers! and you are right in "Better Safe Than Sorry"

Yes, macros, as randy48 mentioned - that would probably be the biggest threat. I guess that pretty much any file out there could hold a virus of some sort though. Some programs allow you to scan the file for viruses before opening it; just be sure that your AV software is updated.
