Will a DVD player work satisfactorily with integrated graphics? I'm going to build a cheap system for someone, probably using a Intel board with 810 chipset (found one for about $30...) I wanted to substitute a DVD player over a CD Rom since there would only be $20 -$30 difference. Processor will be a Celeron, probably 800, and at least 128mb of ram. Haven't decided on operating system. Would be either ME or XP home edition. A DVD with hardware decoder would be too expensive.
Thanks for any feedback.

I wouldn't use ME, too many problems with it.

Use 2k or XP.

As long as the onboard video supports DVD it will work.

What mobo?

The motherboard is an Intel brand, I think BP810. It has onboard modem as well. It's sort of wierd in that it has only one dimm slot , and no PS/2, only usb ports. So the keyboard would be a few bucks extra. Memory is so cheap now I could just populate the slot with 256Mb off the bat. At least the intel USB controllers work well, unlike the VIA ones. I found a solution for that though. A cheapie $10 USB PCI card with Opti chipset does the trick. I've got 3 systems at home with VIA chipsets and each of them now has an add on card. Otherwise, a lot of problems with USB.

Whoops, I went to Intel's site and this board only supports 66 mhz bus. So a Celeron 800 is out. Says it only supports up to 500 but maybe there is a bios update available. I had better check that first. Dang, there's always a catch!:o

500 MHz may be too slow w/o some hardware acceleration.
