I have a little Pentium (75MHz:( ), with 16MB of Ram. I only have it because my Dad's work was just going to toss it. It works fine! Dumbass me put Windows98 SE on it...idiot. It's slow as hell. Now I am not thinking that this little thing will be great or anything, but it should be faster than what it is with 98. Question:

If I format this little thing and install 95, is the formatting process the same for a laptop as it is for a Desktop? What about the PC Cards? I have NO supporting disks. There is NO name brand mark anywhere, believe me, I have REally looked.

By the way, before anyone suggests, I have already deleted the Unistall information from Windows98. Idiot...a real idiot. Thanks for your help

I have no comment on your questions, but this is a civlized forum. Althought we don't punish or have nay set strict rules about language, please keep it to a minimum. I'll tell you right now, some people won't even read it when they come to a word like the ones you've used, just try to keep it down a little, thanks

Not being defensive here....just curious-what words in particular if you don't mind?

Believe it or not, I just put W98 using a PNY 133 upgrade chip (on an old 486 system) and 32 megs RAM - I think the chip specs at P75 or P90 - everything runs fine. Couldn't tell if it's a laptop or desktop, or what components you have.

If it's a laptop you should be okay just adding RAM (if possible), and laptop memory for older computers is pretty reasonable -www.coastmemory - is a good place to look. This is your best shot, and if it costs 20 bucks or so, believe me, it's worth it.

A lot of times (particularly for laptops) you can find alot of the install and generic driver files for all the devices on the hard drive in some folder marked admin, etc. Do a search for the .inf files, then open them (don't right click and use install) one at a time to see what they belong to.

You can always do a clean install of W95 once you've formatted the hard drive (after you've copied off the drivers you found), or identify all your components to get drivers off the internet, then do the install.

And take it easy - we've all been "idiots" at one point or another - it's the best way to learn once you get past the despair.

Thanks rmanet. One thing though, I don't really use this computer for much outside of Excel and Word on the go. No games, etc. Thus, I would not spend the money on more ram. However, as I just discovered, I can burn ripped DVDs into CD format and view it as a movie.

This is the problem. I tried to kind of make my little laptop into a "portable DVD player" for camping and what not. It is REALLY choppy quality alround. I tried copying to the hard drive and playing from there. Same thing.

My question now is should I try formatting and putting on Windows95, or buy more memory. See, if I buy more ram, I would like to know for sure that I could use this little thing for viewing movies. Thanks!

Some people are easily offended!

I wouldn't count on using a p75 laptop for viewing movies. The ram is a problem, but I am certain that the video card in the laptop will never play a decent quality level no matter how much ram you install.
