Hi all,
Dilemma -
have just swapped my LG 48x for an Acer 52x because the Acer does DAE about twice as fast and much more reliably (according to Nero CD Speed). I am able to burn CDs from my HDD, however, when I try to copy using Adaptec CD-Copy (ez cd creator 4.02) with the 'copy to hdd' option - it gets through between 1-7 tracks, stops halfway through a track and then freezes the system. You can press the cancel button but it does not cancel. It just sits there. So I ctrl-alt-del and get a blue screen - system waiting bla bla. Have to press reset to get anything. This is when the fun starts:- files are missing on the HDD and the 2nd and 3rd times this happened they were important system files! system.ini and emm386.exe for example. So, I do a "refresh" install of windows and get my system back (twice now) and I am a bit too scared to try again. Any Ideas?
I have tried tried ripping to both c: and d: with the same result. I haven't tried another ripping prog simply because I am a bit scared. Once I have backed up all my important files I will do some research - but until i've done that I'd like some opinions.
I have recently upgraded my system but the cd copy ripping was working after the upgrade.
I have also been having trouble with my 40gb seagate drive reverting to 33gb in CMOS - something to do with seagates disk manager program and its dynamic overlay thingy. It's very annoying and it keeps coming back even tho' the driver for it is long gone - Might be involved?
I also recently played with The RAMDISK program from Cenatek but it is not running.
My main thought has been that the PS is not good enough for the acer drive even though it was for the LG ... ? (I was a bit surprised that the system worked initially with the 250w PSU)

My System Specs:
1.4ghz Athlon TB
ECS K7S5A Motherboard (SiS 735)
1 x 256mb Samsung DDR 266mhz
IDE CABLE 1-
c: 10gb 7200 rpm Maxtor ATA 66
d: 40gb 5400 rpm Seagate U5 ATA 100
IDE CABLE 2 -
e: acer 52x CDROM Drive
f: LG 40x 16x 10x 8160B CD Writer
(DMA is ON for all drives.)
Eagle GeForce II GTS - detonator 21.83
250w PSU
SBLive! Value - Liveware 3.0
Surecom pci LAN Card - realtek 8129 Compatible (standard Windows driver)
Windows 98SE

thanks!

After some fiddling and overhauling (re-install, repartition, different driver sets etc ... ) it appears that DMA is the bugbear. I have switched it off for both HDDs (via System Properties) and both ripping and copying are now working again. Anyone have any clues about this dilemma?

Try using Nero or anything but Ezy Coaster Creator:D

Hi guys,
This seems to be my only problem - When I try to use disk-copy with Easy CD Creator 4.02-4.05 it gets halfway through and randomly corrupts files across the hard disk. If I use ECDC to simply rip the tracks it also freezes the system but after the reboot only the wav files are screwed. This only occurs when either of my Hard Disks are in DMA Mode. Switch it off and it goes without a hitch. Am now using Nero 5.5 and it does the CD Copy very well with my HDs in DMA mode. - ?? Strange, ECDC says it doesn't like the CD drive to be in DMA mode - but, in this case it doesn't make any difference what mode the CD drive is in - only what mode the HDs are in.
IT seems to be working fine now as long as I dont try to use ECDC CD-copy. My only concern is that I may come across this problem again in some other program. Does anyone have any ideas ... ? Is it likely to happen again? and what was it?
