I'd like to know how to make one of my own link cables to hook on up to my computer. I have a place to get the software and just need this cable, for a TI-89.
There are many places on the net with schematics, but as I'm not quite an electronics person, I don't quite understand all of them.
Or, if you have one you don't need, let me know via e-mail also.
Thanks in advance.

it would be cheaper and better if you would just go out an buy the black usb/serial cable at a retail store. it's only $20

I built one back in the day.... About 5 years ago for my TI-92. It was pretty simple and only set me back about oh $5 or so. All the parts can be had at radioshack. Those instructions are about the most comprehensive you will find. You don't need to use the resistors to put it together. All you need is the diodes. Like I said all can be found at radioshack. For the wire, you can use the wire from an old pair of headphones. That worked fine for me.
Maybe you could print all that **** out and take it to the radioshack dude. He may just put it together for you if you give him a few hours. Most of them are handy with a soldering iron and have little better to do while they are there. The radio shakcs by me never seem too busy. Look into it though. maybe offer him a 5 spot.
If you try yo tackle it yourself fel free to ask me any questions.... I will try to help.

What radio shack to you go to Gomer. Every radio shack that I've been to the people working there are idiots. I dont event ask them to help me look for something anymore. Emc2,The best thing you can do is pick up a soldering iron and practice, so you can build it yourself. Radio shack also has does $2.00 books that show you how to solder properly and basic electronics. But if you are that tight for cash then just do a seach and I'm sure you'll find a mess of tutorials on soldering and basic electronics.

Never claimed they were rocket scientists... But they can solder, and it is a relatively simple. I agree that it is always better to try to do something yourself, but for the first-timer this can be slightly difficult. Getting everything to fit into the PP connector can be rough.
As I am a senior in high school who has to pay for pretty much everything, $20 goes a long way to what I need more than to what I want. I just need a temporary cable, so I can get some statistics programs for it. When I get the money, yeah I'll probably get a better cable to use in college.
So, the original question remains, how do I make one?
