I enjoyed the daylights out of virtual world when they were open in Dallas - with red planet and battle tech pods -

now with networking and DSL lines and VPN technology - I'm wondering if someone isn't out there selling pod kits to go with games such as mech-warrior.

This might get moved to the brainstorming forum - okay -

Seems like the toughest part would be the control interfaces for the indicator lights - speed controls, etc. etc. You'd need a PCI slot card with relays on it and screw-type conectors to attach lights and other things like warning buzzers, sensors, etc. etc.

There would also have to be plans for the pod itself - where to put the speakers - what type of automobile to look for in the junk yard to get a car seat rather than a hard wooden bench -

you'd need dual video cards in the PC - one for the forward view and one for the data/tech screen......

you'd need a solid joy-stick or control set that can handle some punishment - pedal controls like you see on some of the racing game control sets. - and run it all off of a spare PC power supply off the 5 and 12 volt feeds.

Then you'd have to have a game environment server people could log into. - there'd have to be communication channels - that would require internet telephone or voice over I.P. technology - and I'd envision - " the battle ground - enter at your own risk & explore " - no rules - but skill ratings so things stay somewhat fair - and the ability to log on at any time and enter the grounds....

there might be air or space battles as well -
there would be different classes of vehicles -

is anything like this out there? Are there pod kits or plans?

Are there free form I/O boards - possibly from robotics kits?

I'm stunned this got no comment over-night - floating it back to the top to let the "community" chew on it today.....

This is very interesting. What exactly is this virtual world pod, can you explain what the user experiences?
