WOW! 4 times the preformance (and reliability? and temperature?) of today's RAMBUS? If RAMBUS actually worked (decently), then Intel wouldn't have to take AMD to court to get them to sell DDR. Anyone remeber how rediculous RAMBUS was when it first came out? Going back to matched pairs like in the days of EDO or buying the gold-plated terminator unit for an absurd price? How about only being able to buy 128 MB "RIMMs" for close to $200 (and having to use two of them)? And the final kicker: they run at 400 MHz, yet are outpreformed by DDR SDRAM running at 266 MHz.

SEALTEAMTHREE,

My, how the ignorant and shortsighted fall so short in the world of technology.

WOW! 4 times the preformance (and reliability? and temperature?) of today's RAMBUS?

Clearly, you were drinking bleach when the notion of shrinking the micron size--allowing for the lowering of core voltage, and thus producing considerably less heat--came out. That's like saying "AMD's 4GHZ CPU will run at four times the temperature of their 1GHZ" Most CPUs, made of n-type and p-type transistors (no different from RAM), have a thresh hold temperature. Go read a simple technical document explaining these concepts in greater detail before making such a damnably uninformed statement.

Anyone remeber how [sic] rediculous RAMBUS was when it first came out? Going back to matched pairs like in the days of EDO or buying the gold-plated terminator unit for an absurd price?

Matched pairs must be used because the system is dual-channel, the continuity RIMMs used because the system is closed. The continuity RIMMs come with most motherboards, or can be purchased for the "absurd" price of $5.

And the final kicker: they run at 400 MHz, yet are outpreformed by DDR SDRAM running at 266 MHz.

DDR SDRAM runs at 133mhz, not 266mhz. Use one standard (counting using both edges to get the theortetical performance) or the other (counting raw mhz).

Tell me, SEALTEAMTHREE, what sort of RAM solution would you care for when the FSB starts running at 800MHZ? 1200MHZ? DDR SDRAM doesn't embody 1/3 the scalability that RDRAM does. Of course, such technical particulars are problably unknown to a person such as yourself, living in the here and now and not taking a moment to contemplate the overall issue or the future.

You're the sort of idiot me and my college peers ridicule past the fifth beer on a friday night.

Say Ranma,

are you in a period or somethin???

Just because not everybody knows much about stuff, that doesn't justify the fact that you are acting like a total jerk!!!

If ya wanna explain how it truelly is, which you probably read off of some site, or copied it right out of a technical document, then ya can do this in a normal way, without being such an @$$hole!!!

Sorry to say, but if I had to choose between being unknowing and getting to hear this from you, well, I'd rather know nothing!!!

Stop acting this way and grow up, or go away, those kinda posts we don't need here!!!

Ultima,

Pleased to see that you'd rather remain ignorant than know the truth. Perhaps you'd get along with SEALTEAMTHREE?

P.S. I'll post whatever I like. Idiot.

hopefully ranma will get banned soon

from reading the article it looks like the big deal is detecting rise and fall on a smaller range. Besides the legal/proprietary issues, I wonder if ddr could do the same...or is it only possible with the different architecture rambus has?

the article also mentioned that this yellowstone memory is likely to cost a lot more...but could it drop below ddr prices at some point...

If ignorant means not having to deal with people with the likes of you, I think I'm not the only one that feels that way.

And post whatever you like ehh??

Well, ya can do that, ya won't get to me with that kinda stuff, and besides, you're probably the ignorant one, who's is happy that he can give an opinion about something he just read an article about, but still doesn't have a clue about what he is saying.

What I'd like to see you do is explain what you told in yer post, but then in common man words, let's see if you indeed know what you are telling.

And that would be without the *****ing please, cause sooner or later, you'll get banned for it, people have been banned for less, so.....
