Is there such a thing as a DVD writer drive yet? It would seem like such a waste to buy a CD-RW drive and then have a DVD RW drive come out. I only have an 8x CD drive right now so anything is better!

Yes, there is a DVD writer which we call "DVD-RAM". The first DVD disks hold 4.7GB of data, roughly the equivalent of seven CD-ROM platters and can hold over 2 hours of full-motion video with superb quality. DVD-RAM may hold more data and can be used more conveniently to hold large backups than CDR's or CDRW's, but because of the high prices on the DVD-RAM drives and medias, I think that people are going to wait until the prices drop a bit.

NDC is almost right but the writers are called DVD-RAM, There is also a competing format which is called DVD-RW not sure much more than that
