I don't have any experience with the Samsung branded drives, but for $63 you almost can't go wrong!

yeah i know but im researching for a neighbor and i don't want this hard drive to go to hell or be slow.

The Seagate facory outlet has some pretty good deals! They tend to be slightly more expensive, but they come with the 3 year factory warranty (they are NOT refurb uless they explicitly say they are) and they are by and large a good product.

This is a 13GB/9ms/5400rpm for $89: http://shop.seagate.com/product/detail.html?PRODUCT_ID=75 .

If it's for someone else, it's probably worth the few extra bucks for peace of mind!!

the absolute best bang for the buck I've found lately is a Quantum 15 GB 7200 RPM drive with a 2 MB cache - that's about 100 dollars US - it's an ATA66 drive which beats most of the older SCSI technology and will keep all but the most demanding gamers happy in todays market. They had a 10.2, but I think they stopped making stuff that small. I'd still be happy with a very fast 4 GB drive - but then I don't save much on my PC.
