I have a cable modem connection with a company named Thrunet. They have excellent speeds and have no complaints there. But my darn cable connection seems to go down all of the sudden at least once a month. Anyone else having similar problems with their cable modem connection?

Yep, I'm having tons of problems with my @home service. I'm NOT happy with it. Frequent modem resets and down time...I need to see how ADSL is...my cable is sooooooooo slow these days :/

For about 10 months now I've had very little trouble with AT&T/@Home. No downtime to speak of, and VERY fast.

However, they are doing SOMETHING (God knows what?) because my node (for the city of Pinole) has been down all weekend. Well, technically not down, but I'd consider 80-100% packet loss the same thing.

I was just chatting with a customer service rep (I'm at work now) and they claim my service should be back to normal...we'll see when I get home.

i have @home, and that happened to me. A technichian came out and checked my line, and there was a faulty video filter attatched to it that was nocking the signal out every once in a while. He removed it and it works fine now. I've been on for the last 2 weeks straight.

There's been a few times my shaw@home service has been down, but I always get an e-mail about a day before telling me. I've had it for about a year now, and over all there's been much less stress than dial up.

Cable in my area is total ****.

I used to have it, and I encounted a plethora of problems. Inconsistant speeds, network failures, atrocious customer service (waited nearly 80 minutes for help once!)

Then came the last straw. It went down for 2 and a half weeks, with no signs of it coming back online anytime soon. I said forget it, and I went with ADSL, which had just become available in my area at the time.

That was a year ago, and I'm very happy I switched. The main difference between the two?

RELIABILITY. One has it, one didn't.

Hi,
I am with Telstra bigpond advanced in australia and there is constant complaints about them in the computer magazines and i am having trouble with something, the light on the modem that tells when there is a signal coming from the CABLE itself flashes every now and then, when this happens i have to go into networking and dialup icon in control panel, delete the tcp/ip protocol, shutdown, reboot and reinstall the protocol just so i can use it again. This is how Telstra reckons that i should fix it.

I have Telstra BigPond Advance Cable too, I live in Melbourne in Australia and haven't experienced ANY trouble for it. I have had it for over three months now, and have no experience on it not working. Where do you live kljucd1?? 'Cause I definietly have no complaints except for the SPEED!!

For eight flipping hours today it was out! I think it is the first time it has happened for that long. They have been upgrading and someone screwed up. Since they started the upgrade a month or two ago it goes out every so often but only for a few minutes.

I have had @home in phx for 5 months now and only had about 2 hours of downtime since. My pc's are always on and one has ftp access that I use from time to time. I download anywhere from 100k-550k per sec. I had a 256 dsl back in KCK from southwestern bell and it was down atleast once a week for hours. Just depends on who you have, where you are, and how lucky you get.

For eight flipping hours today it was out!

I've cable connection down for 7 days! Later found out that the signal had been changed after they had a big construction. They had to come and install a different modem.

7 days? I would be using DSL now if that happened to me.

Yeah. I thought about that as well. But DSL isn't available in my area. Not yet, that is.... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I have RoadRunner cable service and overall i am very happy. I did have a stretch for 5 days of no service and had two other streatches of 2-3 days of downtime. this is over a 7 month period. When it wnet down I called tech support, and called billing, complained loudly and ended up with 2 and a half months of free service.
I get to deal with DSL at work, and all i can say is from the Tech Support side it appears that DSL is down at least a few days a month. One DSL company we deal with seems to have constant down time, and the other is a little better, but just plain slow.
overall i would say that 5Mbps down and 384kbps up is a great deal for what i pay...and it is more reliable than anyone i know with DSL.

I have ATT@home...service has been pretty good.Usually connected at around 800kbps (according to www.2wire.com) (http://www.2wire.com)) Once in awhile my mail gets screwed up and cant retrieve it but its rare.I would be happier with it, if they knock the price down. One thing that aggravated me was I signed up and got the 1st 3 months @ 19.99 ( which was cool) but now they offer 6 months @19.99 per to NEW subscribers.I have only had it for 5 months now.One things for sure though,is that I'll never go back to dial-up.I guess Ive been one of the lucky ones as far as my connection.

I've been using Shaw@home for a few years now, and on the whole it's been pretty good. Been having a few shutdowns lately (about 7 hrs. last night and 6 hrs a couple of nights ago were the latest ones), but the cable company claims they are changing equipment around. They say it'll improve speeds even more, so I guess I can live with it until they get it right. Definitely worth the money (39.95 Cdn).....no way I'd ever go back to dial-up.

I am one of the lucky ones. I started using @home about 6 months ago and have had only one day of downtime since. I was a beta tester for our area. I should add that our area is an area where there are few subscribers. No slowdown and one day out. Not bad and I am not looking forward to joining the group when mine decides to act like everyone elses...
