but nonetheless, is an ethernet card and a NIC card the same thing? And if not, what would be their differences? Thanks folks.

NIC = Network Interfaca Card, an ethernet card - dunno if there is any difference, but don't think so

well not exactly.

Most likely in reference to your question, they are the same.

NIC is network interface card.
Ethernet is a network standard.

What if one has a card that attaches through a network using a different standard? The card is still an NIC, though I would have difficulty calling it an ethernet card.

There are several different types of NIC's (Ethernet, Token Ring, etc etc).

Token ring, ummmmmm, been awhile, IBM, probably working with it right now, somehow... If I had thought of it (should have), I would've added to post.
