Has anyone heard about this, it only been out recently and what it does is make mp3 more efficient then ever before. VBR stand for variable bit rate, I only know of xing mp3 encoder 1.5 and higher version that support this. I encode a few song using this and it was amazing good but have a weird bit rate of 110Kbit, 116Kbit, 104Kbit. Some really good quality goes above 128Kbaud say 132K, which was what mp3 needed to reserve quality from the original wav file. what can I say, mp3 is actually improving.

Yeah I remember that option. What it basically does, is it evaluates where it can lower the bitrate without it being noticable, and where it has to increase the bitrate to prevent it from being noticable.

VBR has been around for quite some time. All the major encoders support it (LAME, Frauhaufer, etc.)

If you want to learn something about encoding/ripping/etc., check out this site: http://r3mix.net/

BTW, Xing is the worst encoder by FAR. Try a different encoder and see for yourself. And try a decent bit rate too, at least 160, preferably 192-256.

Nice dig, Warthog. Now I don't have to say the same thing again. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

(Basically, use VBR for the good of the country. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif )

Winamp does indeed show the bitrate flucuating when playing a VBR MP3. It's almost hypnotizing to watch it increase and decrease with the varying music levels in a song. lol

Also, if your mp3 player would correctly show you the bitrate, then you wouldn't have those "wierd" rates, you'd actually see the rate constantly changing. I believe Winamp shows the rate correctly.
