My internet connection is pac bell dsl basic with one dynamic ip address. I have a di 804 router spliting that address for multiple pc's. The first time i installed xp, it worked fine, but then it failed me. I am not able to long on the internet or anything. Windows installed realtek drivers for my nic, but i installed the original win 2000 dlink drivers for my dlink 530+ tfe nic. I do not know wut is wrong? plz help. I believe the problems started after I reformatted to nfts from fat 32. Plz help, i checked my connections and they are ok.

There large number of views and no post might be because the problem statement wanders a bit. See inline questions and comments.

>> Does this mean the IP address is different each time? If so, how'd you split it? I'm guessing you use "DHCP" (it isn't really, but for the sake of discussion...) and you get the same IP address each time. Please clarify.

>>How?

I am not able to long on the internet or anything.

>> Does this mean you can't get web pages? No one "logs on" to the Internet. Does email work? FTP?

Windows installed realtek drivers for my nic, but i installed the original win 2000 dlink drivers for my dlink 530+ tfe nic.

>> Does this mean that there were problems on your local network with the other drivers?

I do not know wut is wrong? plz help.

>> File system won't come into play here.

Can one of your computer see the other across your network? If so, the netcard drivers are working fine. If not, that's the first issue to address.

How about hooking the XP box to the DSL router and use the ISP assigned IP address for testing to make sure the supernetting isn't the issue.

Does email work, or FTP? What message does the browser return? Do any pages render?

XP may be looking at the wrong nic card for internet access.

how are you logging on? PPPoE?

Have you use the internet wizard to establishing a PPPoE account?

Remember you will need to add a area code in the wizard to complete the internet user account.
