Is there any service out there that offers very cheap pop3 e-mail accounts? By very cheap - less than $10 a month would be good. And also, one that doesn't tack a little ad onto each e-mail would also be nice.
I just want an e-mail address that won't change if I switch ISPs. But I also want it to be accessible through a program like Outlook, or Internet Mail in my case.

www.ematic.com (http://www.ematic.com) gives you a free pop3 address, I use it with Outlook Express/Outlook 2000. It is also web-based so you can check it via a browser if you're on trips. It is free, and thus isn't 100% rock-solid reliable. It is, however, very reliable (maybe a few times a month it won't work).
If you want 100% reliable, you will probably have to pay, which you are willing to do. I got this one because there are multiple people in our house and only 1 email address with our ISP.

There's also Softhome.net for free POP3 accounts. I've been using them for several years now. Downtime is minimal and I really don't have any complaints.

netaddress.com offers pop3 for a very small price (i think it's only about 1.50 / month, but I don't really remember.) I don't know if it taks on ads on the bottom, though.

yahoo gives a free e-mail with pop3 provided you subscribe to at least one of their newsletters. Works great - and has a real nice synchronization feature with Outlook - even sends a daily e-mail with tasks that are to be worked on that day and any appointments

Of the ones I use (several since the local isp provides no email) Yahoo was far and away the most reliable. Quick and fast with the painless price of only a very few occasional advertising emails. Since the big hack-attack a couple of months ago, the service has not been as solid but still decent. I also use Softhome and would give it a distant second.
And I'm also going to look into others that have been mentioned. Good to have backups.
